This song, outside of being a testament to, and evidence of how much I love making and playing music with my friends, was written (in 2023) with a couple of intentions. There’s no verse/chorus, it’s all basically choruses that keep changing and moving forward, And the lyrics were around this pondering of how we got to this point where not only are we dealing with external forces that are constantly trying to upend our reality for their personal gain, but also with the fact that many people seem to be accepting, and cheering on fascism while trying to tell themselves, and others, that they are fighting for freedom. But what does it mean to be really free, and to bear that responsibility for the next generations?

As far as the video the concept was to just take videos from our everyday lives and not try to categorize it as mundane or boring or cringe- it’s just simply recording what’s going on and the funny thing is that despite what’s happening on our screens and phones and consciousness, there is still so much beauty and joy and freedom in the world and that is a direct indicator that they can never win. They might alter the economy and make it harder for us to do what we want to do and live where we want to live, they can write policy, they can make impotent threats on TV when they try to sound like their third Reich heroes, but if we simply refuse to accept their words and deeds and love eachother despite everything, and make art that’s not about going viral, and mobilize to leave a better future for the next generations instead of robbing it like they have done to ours, they will never win because fascists always lose.

“The etymology of the word Terrific comes from terrificus meaning causing terror or fear. Through semantic amelioration it got flipped into meaning excellent or great. The phrase Terrific Boomerang is about when bad things come back to you almost even worse than the way the left. (Which I think we can point to one major thing that’s worse now than it was the first time). But much like the word changed meanings over time, we have that power.”

Hellhouse is a dark experimental pop shoegaze band from Los Angeles, California founded by Chris Spino (aka Coma Girls) as an outlet for heavy guitar sounds and extreme pedal experimentation. After a decade away from bands outside Coma Girls, Spino brought together collaborators for this new project. The debut Hellhouse EP written by Spino with Kai Richard debuts on March 28th, 2025.

The debut Hellhouse EP, produced by longtime Coma Girls collaborator Christian Paul Phillippi ( ) and mastered by Joey Oaxaca, explores covert misanthropy and struggles with alcoholism. The record channels the baritone stylings of Rozz Williams and Ian Curtis while maintaining a sharp pop sensibility and expansive sonic atmosphere. Recorded live with minimal overdubs, the EP features Kai Richards and Chris Spino as songwriters, with drums by Shravan Surendran and bass by Mark Cieslikowski.
