“5 G’s” is an album of 11 songs that sucks you in like an audio portal Jumanji and shakes your soul like a “Magic 8 Ball”

Each song contains elements of different rock genres yet all share the unique musical DNA of Christian Paul Philippi, with lyrics relatable to too many during these times of great upheavals; personal, political, and collective.

Tracks like “Pure O” flex Christian’s post punk muscle with riffs and melodies reminiscent of Joy Division, while the dazzling synths and electronics of “Honey” pull listeners in with other shades of allure. Hints of Deftones, Lou Reed, Omni, Michael Seyer, and Dijon are all present throughout “5 G’s” — a vulnerable record that offers empathy over the pains of loss, heartbreak, and aging.

Christian is a venerable producer in Los Angeles already, working with the likes of , and to name a few, with mounting solo releases to his name, CPP is humbly plying his trade yet also bleeding extra for his own songcraft.

“Satan Takes The Wheel” exemplifies the strength of Christian’s songwriting and the ethos of the “5 G’s” album, letting the guitars and vocals sit up front, raw and honest, fusing sounds from the likes of Pinback and the Smiths with something entirely unique to Christian’s own approach.

“This song is like the equivalent of a tik tok dance, but political? Social/political. I guess I’ve been upset about my own addiction to the smooth glass in my hand. I’ve been upset about how were more connected than ever, but seemingly less in control of ourselves or our communities. I think the lyrics maybe go towards being too on the nose, but that’s what activist lyrics are supposed to be.”

“Holy Light is the third song this fall in which I played acoustic guitar in the writing process and left it in. Sometimes I start songs out that way and finish more electric and digital. Bram and I were goofing in his studio a lot about 10 months ago, right when the persephone period was ending and the days were starting to get a lil more light. I was singing the chorus, just kinda do da doping and scatting, saying s**t. and I said something that at first struck me as corny, but Bram turned his head and was like, do it again. So we tried to do it again. His drums on this song really make it imo. The drums of a song always tell you what the genre is. Anyhow, The wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald has been on for 4 days straight and I can hear it through the floor above me in the basement of a music venue and I guess it’s fitting bc maybe this is one of my ballads. less of a story, but big ballad energy.”

Was a fun song to make. The kinda thing where each piece of the music took us to the end and then right when were going to give up, something new that gave it more momentum, tumbled out. All of these new ones were written with acoustic guitars last winter. Excited to share them with the world.
