Dear Friends,

If you're attending the Edinburgh Festival this coming week, please support this Belarusian political physical theatre adaptation of Orwell's "1984". Richard is pictured here in conversation with members of the remarkable "Within Theatre Company." Performances are every day in Old Lab Summerhall until Sunday 11th August, 11.40am - 12.40pm.

The company is led by dancer and theatre director, Sofia Barysevich. Also at Summerhall in the Cow Shed, and Old Lab corridor, is an installation, and artworks related to political prisoners in Belarus.

Orwell's seminal work has never been more relevant.

Dear Friends of Richard and the Demarco Archive,

Many of you will now be aware of the impending sale of Summerhall. The life’s work of Professor Richard Demarco must find a new home.

We urgently need to transport half the collection to a new location at The Crichton in Dumfries. This estate contains the Dumfries campuses of Glasgow University, the Open University and Dumfries and Galloway University. In the short term, we also hope to maintain and allow access to 7 rooms of art at Summerhall during this year's Edinburgh Festival.

We are now faced with raising the funds needed to facilitate an initial move of half the archive, while continuing to pay rates and rent on the remaining 7 rooms at Summerhall, until the final move to a new permanent home in the Spring of 2025.

A conservative estimate for all of the above, as well as taking this opportunity to do the necessary conservation and repairs of the works damaged in the recent second flooding at Summerhall is estimated at more than £50k.

Please, if you can, consider making a gift now to the Demarco Archive Trust so that we can continue to give life to this important and unique living work of art, and celebrate the life’s work of Richard Demarco as he approaches his 94th birthday.

Would you also please forward this page to any individual or institution you know of who might be supportive of our mission to maintain and expand this life’s work of Richard Demarco which is of national and international importance.

Weʼre raising money to Support the Demarco Archive. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

Krzysztof Noworyta a dear friend of Richard and the Demarco Archive Trust has just returned from a remarkable mercy mission to Odesa, delivering humanitarian aid with his own car! He met with the Ukrainian artist and war veteran Oleksa Koba by sheer chance. Please share this short video of Krzystof's uplifting journey:

Dear Friends of the Demarco Archive

Many of you will already know that Richard Demarco CBE will be celebrating his 90th birthday this coming 9th July. The restrictions brought by the COVID-19 have meant our original plans to arrange a more public event will be delayed until later this year. However, embracing the virtual possibilities of the web, we wish to invite every friend or follower new and old to create an A4 sized original artwork, expressing how your friendship with Richard and the archive has inspired you. This could be a text, a poem, photograph, collage, sketch or painting. Even a video message if you so wish!

These will be published as an online "digital birthday card" within a dedicated section at demarcoarchive.com – a selection will also be published on our Instagram and Facebook accounts. Your contribution will become forever a part of Richard’s archive...his gesamtkunstwerk!

Please send all of your contributions by 5th July to [email protected]

This ambitious initiative is supported by Mark Francis, Sally Holman, Sandy Nairne, Terry Newman, Trevor Thorne and the Demarco Archive Trust Ltd.

We look forward to receiving your messages, memories and artworks celebrating in the most visual way possible, the life of our dear friend and "truly remarkable man": Richard Demarco.

Please share this post so we can inform as many of Richard's friends possible!
