About BikerDown
BikerDown is a FREE course, taught only by emergency service professionals, on how to keep an injured motorcyclist alive until the ambulance arrives. It was created by Jim Sanderson from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and is taught all over the UK by emergency service personnel who are dedicated to saving the lives of others and helping the public to know what to do, should they arrive at the scene of a motorcycle collision.

Eleanor will be doing many miles this year and she’s got to be looked after.
So I took the opportunity to remove her plastics and inspect her thoroughly whilst the front wheel was still off.

Are you and your bike ready for all those miles you’ll be doing this summer?
What was the last big job you did on your bike?

Ride safe, Ride well. But above all else.
Be happy 🏍️

Let’s Talk Responsibly:

Share the Road:
Let’s Look Out for Each Other!

My Basic Biker family!
Safety is a two way street.
Whether you are on two wheels or four,
a split second makes all the difference.
Let’s keep everyone safe out there with these quick reminders this summer and for many more to come.

For Our Drivers (We Appreciate You!):

Look twice at junctions:
Check thoroughly for bikes before pulling out and always use your indicators.

Expect filtering:
Motorbikes legally filter through slow traffic, usually at low speeds.
Please check your mirrors and avoid sudden lane changes.

Give wide berths:
Pass moving motorbikes with the same wide distance you would give a car.

Check the door:
Always scan your mirrors for oncoming riders before opening your car door.

For Our Riders (Gear Up & Stay Sharp):

Dress for the slide:
Full protective gear, helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots are a non negotiable.

Filter at a safe speed:
Keep your speed low when filtering. Aim for no more than 10–15 mph faster than the stationary or slow moving traffic.

Watch for sudden moves:
When filtering, look out for turning vehicles, pedestrians stepping out, and sudden car doors opening.

Be impossible to ignore:
Ride with headlights on, wear bright or reflective gear, and stay out of blind spots.

Ride defensively:
Assume drivers cannot see you and
always expect the unexpected.

Scan the tarmac:
Watch out for gravel, potholes, and wet patches that can catch you out.

Manage your energy:
Fatigue kills!
If you are feeling tired, pull over and take a break.

Group rides:
Riding with mates is great, but keep your distance and plan your route before you start.

And remember to, Ride well, Ride safe and always find the time to be happy 🏍️

As a monthly contributor by way of donations. I can confirm that this is an excellent choice to contribute towards a driving force for rider safety.
All it will take is to donate the price of a cup of coffee each month, and it will support these riders and keep them safe on the road.
As riders, we give all year round for good causes.
Do you donate to DocBike UK?
Why not just think about the rider support you missing one cuppa per month can make 🏍️

Let’s Talk New Boots:

Hello my friends,
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and getting some great miles in.

I wanted to share a quick update about Eleanor.
I have just fitted a brand new set of boots to my BMW R1200ST!
I went for a set of Continental ContiMotion’s (120/70-17 58W on the front and 180/55-17 73W on the rear).
I even fitted them by hand myself!

There is really nothing quite like the feeling of fresh rubber, and it got me thinking about something incredibly important to our safety and enjoyment on the road; tyre care.
As riders, those two small patches of rubber are the only things connecting us to the tarmac. That is why keeping our tyres in good condition and checking our pressures regularly is so vital.

Running the correct PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) isn't just about making your tyres last longer.
It directly affects:
Your grip:
Correct pressure keeps the tyre profile exactly as intended for maximum contact with the road.
Your handling:
Under inflated tyres can make your bike feel heavy and sluggish in the bends, while over inflated tyres can feel harsh and twitchy.
Your braking:
Proper inflation ensures optimal stability when you need to slow down quickly.

Two quick tips for your checks:

Check them cold:
Always check your PSI before you ride, or at least a few hours after. Riding warms up the air inside and gives you a false high reading.

Look for debris:
Give the wheels a spin and check the tread for embedded nasties like sharp flint, gravel, or hidden nails before they cause a puncture.

Before you head out on your next ride, please take two minutes to check your tread depth, look for cracks, and pop a pressure gauge on the valves.
You can usually find your bike's recommended PSI on a sticker near the swingarm or in your rider manual.

“Let's all lead by example and stay safe out there”!

What tyres are you running on your ride at the moment?

Have you ever tried fitting your own?

Drop a comment below, and let me know how you get on with your pre ride checks!
Ride safe, Ride well and above all else.
Ride happy 🏍️

Happy Bank Holiday weekend everyone! 😎 Stay safe wherever you're heading to and enjoy the fairly good weather.

Keep an eye out for bikers and hopefully nobody will need any medical assistance. If you're unsure about what to do if a biker is off and injured, come and join one of our FBoS courses.

Castlebar, June 13th and Donegal, June 14th.
