Happy Birthday to the legendary Oko Drammeh!
Today, we celebrate a man whose life has been a magnificent symphony of culture, creativity, African pride and artistic excellence. Oko Drammeh is not just a Gambian icon; he is a towering cultural force whose name resonates across Africa, Europe, America and beyond.
From his humble beginnings as the manager and promoter of the legendary Ifang Bondi Band, Oko understood very early that African music was not merely entertainment, but a powerful expression of identity, history and civilization. With courage, vision and relentless passion, he carried African music to the world stage at a time when few believed it could command global attention.
In Holland, he created and organized the famous African Music Festival, transforming European capitals into vibrant homes of African rhythm, dance and storytelling. Through his pioneering work, thousands discovered the beauty and richness of African music and culture. He opened doors for countless African artists and became a bridge between Africa and the world.
From Amsterdam to Hollywood, from Dakar to Beijing, from California to the Caribbean, Oko Drammeh has remained a tireless cultural warrior โ promoting African excellence with dignity, pride and unmatched dedication. His contributions to music production, festivals, cultural exchange and artistic empowerment have left an indelible mark on generations.
The Government of The Gambia rightly honoured him as a Cultural Ambassador during the Second Republic, but his greatest honour remains the love and respect he continues to receive from Africans everywhere.
Even today, back home in The Gambia, Oko continues to inspire through his writings, wisdom and unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism. His voice on social media is a voice of consciousness, culture, unity and African awakening. He reminds us constantly that Africa must believe in itself, celebrate itself and tell its own stories.
On this special day, we salute a living legend, a cultural architect, a custodian of African heritage and a true son of the soil.
May Allah bless you with many more years in good health, peace, wisdom and happiness. May your light continue to shine across Africa and the world.
Thank you for the extraordinary work you continue to do for Gambian and African culture.
Happy Birthday, Oko Drammeh!
We love you, respect you and celebrate you today and always.
