CONDOLNENCE, CONDEMNATION, AND CALL FOR JUSTICE ON THE TRAGIC DEATH OF AN INFANT LINKED TO FGM IN WELLINGARA

The Children National Assembly of The Gambia expresses our deepest condolences to the family of the one-month-old baby girl whose life was tragically cut short in Wellingara in what preliminary reports indicate to be a case linked to Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM).

We are deeply heartbroken by this incident and strongly condemn this brutal and inhumane act which not only violates the rights of the child but also endangers their very survival. FGM is a harmful and dangerous practice with no medical or moral justification and it has no place in our society.

We commend The Gambia Police Force for their swift intervention, the prompt arrest of the suspects and their commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter. We urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that those found responsible face the full consequences of the law. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need to protect all children in The Gambia from harmful traditional practices.

We call on community leaders, religious leaders, parents and guardians to unite in ending FGM and to promote the rights, safety and dignity of every child.

As the Children National Assembly, we remain committed to advocating for the protection and welfare of all children across the nation. No child should ever have to suffer or lose their life to such preventable harm.

Signed,
Hon. Lamin Jawo
Speaker

Alert: A bus carrying Senegalese to the Magal is reportedly attacked in Mali

The information has just arrived at the IGFM editorial office. According to an official of an association of Senegalese nationals established in Côte d’Ivoire, since last Monday, the bus carrying 70 Senegalese to the Grand Magal de Touba, which left Abidjan for Dakar, has not yet reached its destination.
The passengers and the conveyor Aya Lô are unreachable. Haven't heard from them Their parents settled in Senegal also do not hear from them.

According to our interlocutor, the bus would have been a victim of a Jihadist attack in Mali towards Diema, not far from Kayes, towards the border with Senegal.

Believed, they received a call from the driver of a car who served as a guide on the bus, to inform them of the attack of the Senegalese convoy.

Immediately informed, our interlocutor says he has seized the ambassador of Senegal in Côte d'Ivoire. The latter, in his turn, he says, promised him to call the one from Mali to have a clear heart.

While officials provide more information on this possible attack, our interlocutor is calling for help to hear from these 70 Senegalese on board the Abidjan-Dakar bus.

UK Plans to Deport Foreign Prisoners to Tackle Overcrowding.

The UK government announced a new proposal to ease prison overcrowding by deporting foreign nationals currently serving sentences in British prisons. The Justice Secretary outlined that these individuals would be sent back to their home countries to serve the remainder of their terms and would be banned from re-entering the UK.

The plan aims to reduce pressure on the UK prison system and cut incarceration costs. While some support the move, critics have raised concerns about human rights and the feasibility of arranging international transfer agreements. Formal consultations are expected to begin soon.

The Netanyahu Regime targeted Al-Jazeera journalists next to a hospital in Gaza, killing either four or five of them (reports are still coming in). The IDF acknowledged the action and justified it by saying one of the journalists had been the head of a Hamas terrorist cell and had a role in advancing Hamas rocket attacks against the IDF and civilian targets.

This is an appalling act even assuming the IDF's stated justification is true, deliberately targeting a group of journalists and treating them as collateral damage to take out a target—or worse, deliberately killing journalists as a means of terrorizing people reporting in Gaza, which Al Jazeera argues is the case.

Once a dramatic feature of the White House entryway, the official portrait of former President Barack Obama has been moved to a decidedly less prominent position, underscoring the yearslong tensions between the 44th and 47th presidents.

Portraits of other recent predecessors with whom President Donald Trump has a contentious relationship, former President George W. Bush and his father, George H. W. Bush, have also been moved.

Trump directed staff to move the Obama portrait to the top of the Grand Staircase, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN, where it will now be out of view from thousands of visitors who tour the White House each day. One of the sources added that the portraits of both Bushes are also now in the staircase area.
