Interviews are underway for our oral history project! We've been having brilliant conversations about the original Lavender Menace and West & Wilde bookshops, and LGBTQ+ reading in the 80s and 90s more generally. Already we've covered loads of different topics, including local activism, bookshops as a community resource, slash fanfic, and the importance of representation.

We're looking for more interviewees who would like to discuss their memories of books from the 80s and 90s, and the original Lavender Menace and West & Wilde bookshops.

Sauna Boy at theSpaceUK
Sauna Boy is an unflinching and urgent one-man show—a semi-autobiographical exploration into a marginalised q***r culture. Dan Ireland-Reeves delivers a magnetic performance, creating a world brimming with vivid characters, emotional layers, and theatrical precision. It’s a work that celebrates a fragile space—a place of intimacy and community threatened by outside forces—from energy bills to digital anonymity.

If you appreciate theatre that challenges, energises, and holds space for messy, complex q***r experiences, this show belongs at the top of your Fringe list. On the flip side, if you’re seeking melodrama or a clear-cut narrative arc, you might find the emotional subtlety and theatrical restraint less satisfying than fast escalation—but I suspect you’ll be moved nonetheless.

Dan works at the UK's most successful and infamous gay sauna. A place where men from all walks of life come to relax, socialise and most importantly... f*ck. Join Dan as he navigates a hidden world of lust, friendship and unorthodox working relationships. From multi award-winning writer and performe...

Q***r Folks' Tales @ Scottish Storytelling Centre
Q***r Folks’ Tales returns triumphantly to the Scottish Storytelling Centre, offering a two-hour storytelling extravaganza that’s as emotionally rich as it is joyfully bold. Hosted by the magnetic Turan Ali, the evening unfolds with a range of narratives—ranging from uproarious micro-stories to deeply moving monologues—delivered by a diverse ensemble of q***r voices. Ali’s blend of sharp satire and generous warmth sets a welcoming tone that carries through every tale.

What stands out is the diversity in storytelling: contributors weave together humour, vulnerability, cultural identity, and insight with effortless grace. Highlights include Hope London’s lyrical musings on childhood and identity, and Ana Falcon’s poignant reflections on growing up with a drag queen nanny—each story grounded in both heart and humour.

The format encourages audience participation too, inviting micro‑stories from attendees, which are interspersed throughout and create a genuine communal energy.
The result is both entertaining and reflective, offering a powerful reminder of storytelling’s ability to heal, connect, and celebrate q***r life in its most authentic forms.

The 5-star hit LGBTQ+ storytelling show returns for its third Fringe; hilarious, moving, outrageously q***r stories galore! Host Turan Ali takes time out from his BBC shows to scour the Fringe for the best q***r talent, creating a diverse line-up of artists to share hilarious, surprising, sobering t...

James Barr delivers a stand‑up hour that is both courageous and arrestingly honest, weaving humour through the painful reality of q***r domestic abuse. With fearless storytelling and sharp one‑liners, he transforms deeply personal trauma into a show that is both confronting and funny.

This isn’t merely comedy—it’s a nuanced journey through denial, recognition, and healing. Barr’s timing and vulnerability shine.

Emotionally raw, structurally bold, and unapologetically funny, Sorry I Hurt Your Son is a triumph of q***r storytelling and survivor bravado.
Underbelly Festival

Domestic abuse isn't funny, but this show is. Trailblazing comedian James Barr returns to Edinburgh with a bold, 'genre-defying' (ArtsHub.com.au) stand-up hour about the things his ex-boyfriend did to him, including a pushy-wushy down the stairsy-wairsy. Shortlisted at The British LGBT Awards. 'Trau...
