Oops something went wrong!! 😑

When I run my online courses, you get a private facebook group up and running , so no one should see the group except for the invited students ⭐️

Well Facebook has changed its settings yet again and some of you got an invite and accepted a link for my new private, hidden group! I didn’t send them! Facebook did! What!!!

So a little panic last night, everyone got deleted along with the group and a wee investigation was required!!

So sorry for any inconvenience , but no one was harmed and a new group will be made which will be for paying students only! ❤️

My website is under maintenance at the moment also, any courses you have purchased can still be used by logging in at the menu !

Kilt Fusion Time!❤️

The annual cloth sale at Johnstons has just happened, and look at these beauties that were snapped up! Not for me this time, but for my lovely fellow kilt maker from Skye Kiltquine … such gorgeous colours! ⭐️ I wonder what will be made! 🤗

I did treat myself to some gorgeous chunky wool ( similar to my green cloth) to experiment with longer fusion kilts. These pieces blend dressmaking techniques with traditional kilt making to create something a bit different and unique. ☺️

But — and this is important — fusion kilts simply don’t have the same longevity as a traditional kilt. When you use tartan woven by our Scottish woollen mills, you’re guaranteed a fabric created exactly for its purpose. When you use fabrics woven for entirely different uses, there’s no guarantee they’ll behave the way a kilt fabric needs to. 😊

So my fusion kilts are made just for me — to wear, to enjoy, and to study! It allows me to play with my knowledge, test new ideas, and pass that information on to my students. ⭐️

I don’t make these for customers… this is my creative playground! ❤️

Ahh, look at all these beautiful tartans! The colours are like a rainbow in front of my eyes 🌈✨
These are all for my students — both online and in-person — and honestly, it’s wonderful to see such variety. ⭐️

We’re so lucky to have so much choice to suit all our different personalities. It’s never a case of “one colour fits all.” For some people, having a connection to their tartan is incredibly important; for others, it’s simply a chance to express their individuality. ❤️

And that’s the magic of bespoke kilt making — your kilt can be as unique as you are. 💛

✨Respecting the craft ✨

When you learn with me, you’re learning from nearly two decades of dedicated study, practise and graft. Kilt making isn’t something you master overnight; it truly is a lifetime of study.❤️

In a traditional shop workroom, an apprentice can take up to five years to complete their training.
Bespoke kilt making, taught one-to-one or in a small creative environment like mine, is a different experience altogether—but the depth of learning is as demanding. ❤️

Every tutor has their own methods and techniques, built from years of work, and if anyone tells you that you can master this craft after one kilt—or even a handful—that is simply wrong information. This craft takes years.❤️

I work hard to make the process as smooth and supported as possible for you, but teaching isn’t easy, and it’s not something to be taken lightly. That’s why my students sign a non-disclosure agreement—not to be strict, but to protect the integrity of the craft and the years I’ve poured into studying it.❤️

What this does mean is simple: you get to focus on becoming the “go-to” kilt maker in your area, with my full support behind you. I’m here to guide you, share everything I’ve learned, and help you grow into a skilled maker who truly respects the tradition. ❤️

✨Proud Tutor✨

Another kilt has been completed ⭐️❤️

The fabulous Julia made her kilt in the "Aberlour Children's Charity 150th Anniversary tartan" ❤️

It’s been an absolute joy to be able to help Julia create this beauty! Along with her support chicken helping to keep us on track 😂

Also the extra challenge was that Julia is “corrie fisted” 🤭 a Scottish term for left handed 😁 So there was a little unpicking at the beginning until we got our flow 😁

Well done!!

⭐️ Proud Tutor Moment ✨

Hazel came to me a few months ago after seeing my Drummond of Perth commission for a lovely customer ❤️

After looking through lots of samples, she chose to work with the same tartan — and I’m so glad she did! I call it my rainbow tartan, because the colours blend and shift together, creating new shades as you stitch. 🌈

Even though you’re learning, you still get to add those beautiful details that make your kilt truly stand out. ✨

I’m honestly blown away by the kilts my students are creating — the results come from real dedication, careful study, and learning to catch and correct those little mistakes along the way. That’s how masterpieces are made. 💫

The art of story telling through textiles ❤️✨

I feel so flipping privileged to work in this industry and to teach my students how to create hand-stitched heritage kilts. ❤️

This month has been especially brilliant — the 12-day course has been full, and the Kilt Loft has been absolutely buzzing with creativity. ❤️

Each student who comes through my door has looked at all the different options out there for learning kilt making, and then decided to choose me. ✨

Why? I always ask them!

It’s never just one thing — it’s a combination of knowledge, craftsmanship, experience, and, honestly, the vibe. They connect with how I teach. They appreciate the attention to detail, the respect for tradition, and the storytelling woven into every stitch. ❤️

Each kilt they make becomes part of their story — and that’s where the real magic begins. ✨

✨Proud Tutor✨

We have just completed the last 12 day course of the year , and the wonderful Marcie finished her first hand stitched kilt with me ❤️

During this 2 weeks, we have had other students filling the classes with mostly 3 students per day. It’s been such an amazing creative space ❤️ Way beyond my expectations. This is down to all the amazing individuals who have come through the kilt loft doors ❤️

The laughter that has filled the walls will be there forever 🤭✨❤️

Can we all please give Marcie a well done for working so hard and achieving this beautiful kilt that fits like a glove 😍
