The Folk Club is a worldwide eclectic folk show on Folk Music Notebook, Folk Friday Radio, West Norfolk Radio and Mixcloud, curated, produced and presented by Stuart Green. It first started in September 2020 when host, Stuart Green, was asked if he would like his own show. Entertainer Stuart, who is also a founder member of the band Isle ‘ave a Shanty jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back si

nce . In the short time on air, this local show has quickly gathered a global audience right across the folk world. Stuart plays traditional and contemporary folk, roots and acoustic music on the show and draws upon a range of sources. The Featured Artist

In each show Stuart chooses a featured artist and has had a huge number of high-profile performers willing to take part, including folk royalty such as Show of Hands, Jon Boden, The Young’Uns, Gerry Colvin, Damien Barber and many more. Featured artists introduce and tell some of the stories behind their songs that they then share and Stuart constructs the show around them. Here We Are

This section of the show is very close to Stuart’s heart as he believes that everyone should have a chance to be heard. He recognises that there are thousands of musicians out there – up and coming as well as established artists – who don’t always get the opportunities to be heard so he set up this section of the show and invited artists, through social media, to make contact and share their music. He has had an overwhelming response and plays approximately three tracks each week. Some performers in this section have gone on to become Featured Artists too! The Folk Club Challenge

A regular feature of the show is the ‘Folk Club Challenge’. Voluntary performers are given a challenge, by Stuart, to rearrange and record a song of his choice and then when its ready, he plays it on the show. The Rest of The Show

The rest of the show gives Stuart the opportunity to play some of his favourite tracks from artists from across the UK and the rest of the world. It features news from the folk world, your requests and a great mix of folk, roots and acoustic music.

This Week’s Featured Artist (Show 301) are Gilmore & Roberts

Contemporary folk/acoustic duo Gilmore & Roberts combine award-winning songwriting with astounding musicianship and their trademark harmonies to create a powerful wall of sound. Katriona Gilmore (fiddle, mandolin) and Jamie Roberts (guitar) met while studying at Leeds College of Music and released their debut album in 2008. Since then, the duo have toured Canada and mainland Europe, played some of the UK’s biggest acoustic festivals, toured with folk rock legends Fairport Convention and won countless accolades for their genre-spanning work. They have just released the album ‘ A Moment Back in Time’ – a celebration of their 20 years of recording together. I’m delighted that they join me on the show to share tracks from it.

Plus Mel Randall takes on The Folk Club Challenge and not forgetting this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists who are Berlingo Flick, Folk Train and Richard Alfred.

Huge congratulations to Stuart Green on reaching the 300th The Folk Club show - what an incredible milestone! 🎉😎

Since launching back in 2020, Stuart’s show has become such a brilliant champion of folk music, giving space to so many artists, songs, interviews, sessions and festival features along the way. It’s a real labour of love - and we know how much work goes into keeping something like this going week after week.

We’re really chuffed to be included in this special 300th edition, which is available to catch-up on over on Mixcloud. We'll pop the link in the comments.

Do tune in if you can - and here’s to the next 300 shows! 😊
