The Folk Club is a worldwide eclectic folk show on Folk Music Notebook, Folk Friday Radio, West Norfolk Radio and Mixcloud, curated, produced and presented by Stuart Green. It first started in September 2020 when host, Stuart Green, was asked if he would like his own show. Entertainer Stuart, who is also a founder member of the band Isle ‘ave a Shanty jumped at the chance and hasn’t looked back si

nce . In the short time on air, this local show has quickly gathered a global audience right across the folk world. Stuart plays traditional and contemporary folk, roots and acoustic music on the show and draws upon a range of sources. The Featured Artist

In each show Stuart chooses a featured artist and has had a huge number of high-profile performers willing to take part, including folk royalty such as Show of Hands, Jon Boden, The Young’Uns, Gerry Colvin, Damien Barber and many more. Featured artists introduce and tell some of the stories behind their songs that they then share and Stuart constructs the show around them. Here We Are

This section of the show is very close to Stuart’s heart as he believes that everyone should have a chance to be heard. He recognises that there are thousands of musicians out there – up and coming as well as established artists – who don’t always get the opportunities to be heard so he set up this section of the show and invited artists, through social media, to make contact and share their music. He has had an overwhelming response and plays approximately three tracks each week. Some performers in this section have gone on to become Featured Artists too! The Folk Club Challenge

A regular feature of the show is the ‘Folk Club Challenge’. Voluntary performers are given a challenge, by Stuart, to rearrange and record a song of his choice and then when its ready, he plays it on the show. The Rest of The Show

The rest of the show gives Stuart the opportunity to play some of his favourite tracks from artists from across the UK and the rest of the world. It features news from the folk world, your requests and a great mix of folk, roots and acoustic music.

This week's Featured Artists (Show 264) is Nick Lawrence

Nick is a singer and songwriter from Folkestone, England. His music is most strongly influenced by the work of artists such as Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Jake Thakery and The Levellers. He also grew up listening to the traditional folk music of England and Ireland and regularly incorporates songs from this genre into his set lists. These inspirational musicians have driven Nick to write songs encompassing numerous genres, including heartfelt ballads and cutting political commentary, and I’m delighted that he joins me on the show to introduce four tracks.

Also. I reflect with Jo Cunningham from Shrewsbury Folk Festival on this years event plus this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists who are John Reed, Lonan and Amit Dettani

This week's Featured Artists (Show 263) are Rob Jones & The Restless Dream

Rob Jones brings a refreshing authenticity, the crowds love him and he understands the need to take people with him on his musical journey. He has a superb voice and really draws the audience in as well as allowing them to celebrate their moments as well. Rob's poetic lyrics explore themes of love, life, and the search for meaning, all set against a melodic backdrop that transports you to the golden age of rock. His debut album ‘Stars’ is on the verge of release, and I’m delighted that he joins me on the show to introduce three tracks.

Also. I chat with Pam & John from the Harwich International Sea Shanty Festival which is on its way soon (10-12 Oct) plus this week’s ‘Here We Are’ artists who are Glen Hale, The Dreaming Spires & The Sun Pinned Leaves.

Morning everyone!

As you may know, apart from the show broadcasting live on 3 great radio platforms every week, it also goes up on Mixcloud as a 'listen again / archive' show. In fact you can find all 262 shows broadcast on there right now!

The ethos of the show is to share the best music, highlight artists and support grass roots music as well as those well established in the field. Every time someone listens on Mixcloud, it boosts the show profile - and subsequently gives those artists, established and up and coming more air time, space to grow and ultimately raises their profile too. It's a tough time for music and artists need every bit of help they can get.

Did you know you can become a mixcloud Folk Club follower by clicking on the link and clicking 'follow'? Not only does that both directly and indirectly help the show and consequently the artists, but you also become first to know when the show goes up, and more info about what's coming soon.

Please like, share and FOLLOW and lets get The Folk Club where it belongs to be, at the forefront of global listening of Folk, Acoustic and Roots music in the UK and around the World

As I always say, without you, the listeners, there would be no show!
