PORTRAITS OF COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY 1

1. KINGLESS EXISTENCE (CONTINUED)

In Hosea 3:1-3, we see God instruct the prophet to go make a harlot his wife. The prophet’s acquiescence to God’s instruction makes him have a harlot under His roof for a wife.

Then in the same chapter, the fourth and fifth verses, we begin to see the symptoms of counterfeit Christianity X-rayed.

It’ll be unrealistic to say that the harlot will never wear the cloak of unfaithfulness as soon as she becomes his wife. A huge possibility definitely exists for her to indulge herself with other men because her wenchy ways cannot just be straightened overnight.

In the New Testament, the church is metaphorically described as Christ’s wife (Revelations 21:9). She plays the harlot by getting conjugal satisfaction from ‘other gods’ as Israel did to God, a point God was trying to prove by asking prophet Hosea to marry the harlot in the Old Testament.

The fourth verse of Hosea 3 says, “For the children of Israel (that is the church – you and I) shall abide many days (a longtime) without a king or prince…” (Emphasis is mine).

This is kingless Christianity! When there is no king, as we earlier established, there is no authority and when there is no authority, the result is lawlessness or anarchy.

One of the first persons God used to provide leadership for His people in the Old Testament was Moses. The law was brought and established by his leadership.

During his time, people lived by the law, whether or not they savoured it. When Moses left, Joshua took over. When Joshua left, God did not hand over the leadership to any established authority structure. He (God) passed the baton to the elders. This was a fragmented kind of leadership which was not His original intention. This type of leadership easily lent itself to plurality of government. After the elders, the issue of leadership in Israel fizzled out for a while.

The people were led by no one. The resultant effect of this scenario was that every man did what was right in his sight (self-government, a fundamental principle of Satan).

PORTRAITS OF COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY 1

To live above the unfortunate plague of our day, we need to imbibe the ways of the Spirit so that we can develop basic discernment that would help us differentiate the real from the fake and the original from the counterfeit. The word of righteousness, quickened by the Spirit of truth, will help us through this (Hebrews 5:13-14). We, therefore, shall consider the portraits of counterfeit Christianity which is an impotent brand of Christianity. And from such may the Lord deliver us.

1. KINGLESS EXISTENCE

Kingless existence or kinglessness is the first portrait of counterfeit Christianity. Such brand of Christianity pledges allegiance to everyone and everything except Christ. Therefore, it can deny God in the face of storms and would bend under pressure. As Christians, we are beneficiaries of the grace that produces salvation. More so, our existence is supposed to be traceable to the lordship of Christ.

Our primary call is first to see to it that God’s will for our lives is done no matter the cost. This should be held close to our hearts as a matter of priority. A kingless Christian knows God as the fountain of life, but doesn’t understand that the same God is also King. As such, they do not know what it means to operate by God’s standards and be regulated by His government. A kingless preacher could preach anything; his audience might become anything apart from Christ.

“Anythingness” is a virus constructed and unleashed by Satan to beguile Christians and subtly keep them under his rule. There is no vacuum in the realm of the spirit. Any Christian who is not directly under God’s rule in practice will be under Satan’s rule in principle. That’s why it is possible to be a Christian and still remain a potent tool in the devil’s hand. “Anythingness” is, thus, of the devil in whatever fashion it appears. A Christian who is directly under God’s rule in practice cannot just be anything or do anything they want.

The life of a man who has not encountered the Quickening Spirit is like a parked car —beautiful, well decorated and colourful on the outside, totally pleasing to the eyes, but not fulfilling its purpose.
