Creating this fine art style image based on my original image of a boat taken on the river blackwater .
Sometimes as a creative landscape photographer you have to think about where you’re going to take a picture once you have captured it.. .
Be that a simple crop or a play about with the light and shadows of the image. Maybe even like this image you take it one step further
with fine art comes the use of the artists imagination and creativity and those limits are endless.
I don’t do nearly enough of this kind of thing.. but I do love creating work like this..

Timeworn & Timeless – When Ruin Becomes Art

What once carried stories across water now lies silent—its decay echoing a quiet kind of beauty. I was drawn to this forgotten vessel for the emotion it holds in its bones. Framed naturally by wild foreground growth, it felt right to shoot both a vibrant color version that celebrated texture and tone, and a monochrome version that leaned deeply into the drama of form and shadow.

This is the kind of scene that reminds me why I photograph: not just to document, but to interpret. The image isn’t just about what’s there—but about how it feels to stand there, still, with the wind brushing past stories long since whispered into the earth.

📸 Shot on-location along a quiet estuary in the golden stretch of late afternoon light. Edited in both colour and black and white to explore emotion through contrast and tone.

Not something I do often but today while out on a short walk I see this housefly and while I was taking its picture a 7 spotted ladybug come to the party…

Don’t think the fly come out too bad ! Not even taken on a macro lens just a standard 16-50mm Sony lens.

Behind every weathered hull lies a story of voyages of history meet ‘Brent,’ the guardian of the quay.

Shot on a wide‑angle 16-50 mm, f/8, ISO 100 to keep both the intricate rigging and the distant shoreline tack‑sharp. I framed the shot through the wispy fronds in the left foreground, creating a natural vignette that guides the eye toward the vintage steam tug. The soft, diffused daylight under a cloud‑dappled sky brings out the subtle textures in the peeling paint and rivets, while the low‑angle perspective emphasizes the boat’s stoic presence against the river’s gentle curve. I chose a slightly desaturated color grade in post to preserve mood without losing the warmth of the funnel’s ochre tones.

There’s something about a lone sailboat, moored in glassy water under a sky full of drama, that speaks to the heart of every landscape shooter. I made this frame at the edge of an estuary on a partly cloudy afternoon—perfect for that balance of soft light and rich contrast.

Gear & settings: Sony a7 + 16–50mm f/4 | 16 mm | f/11 | 1/125 s | ISO 100
Filters: Circular polarizer to cut glare; 0.9 GND to tame the sky
Processing: Balanced highlights/shadows in Lightroom, boosted clarity & texture to bring out every ripple and cloud
I placed the mast along the right third and let the horizon hover just above center to emphasize both water reflection and sky drama. The foreground reeds add depth and lead you into the scene—one of my favorite tricks for immersive landscapes.

Simplicity speaks the loudest — when the world slows down, even the smallest stem becomes a monument of stillness.

This monochrome image was crafted to celebrate quiet beauty in nature — subtle, overlooked, and fleeting. I focused on the delicate form of a wild plant, standing gently against a bokeh-rich background. The soft blur wraps around the subject like a memory, isolating it in tones of grayscale serenity. By stripping away colour, the textures, shape, and natural rhythm of the composition emerge in full clarity.

Captured this Thames barge gliding across the glassy estuary on a crisp summer evening. I was drawn to the rich terracotta sails against the endless cerulean sky—such vibrant complementary tones make for a timeless frame. Shot on my full‑frame at 50 mm, f/8 for sweet edge‑to‑edge sharpness, 1/250 sec to freeze the subtle ripples, ISO 100 for max fidelity. I positioned myself low on the shoreline to emphasize the boat’s reflection and lead your eye straight into the scene.

What I love most about landscape photography is finding harmony between natural light, color, and geometry—and this composition delivered on all three. Double‑tap if you can almost feel that gentle breeze! 🌬️❤️

Wandering through a sea of green, I found a forgotten bridge whispering stories of time.

From my 85 mm prime at f/1.8, I isolated the moss‑clad arch against a creamy bokeh foreground, drawing the viewer’s gaze across the span into the dappled woods beyond. Shot in the soft golden hour light, each brick’s texture and the ivy’s tendrils pop with rich tonal contrast. By positioning the bridge off‑center and keeping the aperture wide, I created depth and a sense of discovery—like stepping into a secret corner of the English countryside.
