With November’s successful concert The Weather Book behind them, members of Exeter Philharmonic Choir are getting in the Christmas spirit. Why not join them for Carols in the Cathedral on Tuesday 16 or Wednesday 17 December? Always popular!

Well, that was the week that was! Mega media coverage on both regional news programmes and numerous news sites in the South West for CPRE Devon over opposition to proposals to cover more than 4 sq miles of prime Devon farmland with a mega solar farm. And a lovely piece on ITV News West Countryabout Westbank Community Health and Care and the responsibilities these young people face supporting family members who couldn’t cope without them.

Why do I do PR for charities? Precisely for days like this… when I get to share the amazing stories of some of the young people supported by Westbank Community Health and Care with a prime time TV audience.

It was wonderful to welcome two of my former ITV News West Country colleagues to Westbank’s Community Cookery School yesterday to film young carers taking part in a fun half-term Hallowe’en cooking activity.

The children were just brilliant, and their stories of how they help care for family members brought home the importance of the activities and opportunities provided by Devon Carers at Westbank that allow them to « just be kids » for a while.

A big thank you to Jacquie Bird and for producing such a moving piece. You won’t believe the amount of effort that went in behind the scenes from so many people to make this happen, but it was worth it.

Only 3 weeks to go until Exeter Philharmonic Choir performs Cecilia McDowall’s new composition The Weather Book in its entirety for the first time. I’ve heard some of it in rehearsal and it’s already sounding fabulous.

The 3-movement work is 20 minutes long, so the concert also includes established works by Poulenc, Vaughan Williams and Brahms and features not one, not two, but three female soloists.

Early birds can also book a free place at the pre-concert talk Devon & Exeter Institution but space is limited!
