beataboutmusic

beataboutmusic Beyond playlists. BAM connects fans, artists, and venues in one place - for real discovery, real gigs, and music that actually matters.

Connecting the most important members of the local music community; the fans, the artists and the venues. BAM’s core value is to allow music fans to easily find the music they want to listen to in their city. By doing this we help to raise artists profiles and ensure they reach existing and new audiences, as well as music venues.

The Underground, a new 200-capacity venue on Christchurch Road in
Boscombe, opened on 7 August. It's the work of local promoters Hawkeye
Houlihan and Hayley Goodrick, built to bridge the gap between Bournemouth's
smaller rooms and the bigger touring venues already in town.

Opening night went to Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic, fronted by founder
Martin Degville, played through a vintage analogue PA with a vinyl-only DJ
booth either side of the gigs. The programme going forward mixes touring
acts, local talent, and specialist nights, folk and jazz clubs included.

Every new room is one more place a band can build a following without
leaving town. Bournemouth's had a gap here for a while.

Liverpool invented the idea that a scene could come out of a basement and
change music forever. Merseybeat started in rooms not much bigger than a
living room, and sixty-odd years on the city still hasn't lost the habit
of turning small stages into launchpads.

Merseybeat, indie, post-punk, DIY and whatever comes out of a Seel Street basement next.

Glasgow's underground scene runs deeper than a city this size has any right to. This is where Postcard Records built twee pop from scratch, where Oasis got signed after a single support slot, and where new bands still queue up to play the same small rooms that made all of it happen. Post-punk, indie, twee pop, noise and everything that doesn't fit anywhere else.

New grassroots venues opening are rare enough to be worth flagging on
their own. One built by people who already work with emerging artists
day to day is worth watching closely.

Manchester didn't just have a scene, it had several, stacked on top of
each other. Post-punk gave way to Madchester, Madchester gave way to
Britpop, and underneath all of it a DIY circuit kept turning out the next
lot before the last lot had even sold out an arena.

Post-punk, Madchester, indie, acid house, DIY punk. Manchester built its
sound in rooms like these.

We built this because £200 a month can be the difference.

Not every artist needs a record deal. Most just need enough to keep going — fuel for the van, new strings, the next rehearsal room booking.
That's why Fan Support exists on Beat About Music: a simple way for fans to subscribe directly to the artists they follow, giving them a small, recurring bit of income and access to exclusives in return.
No gatekeepers. No label cut. Just fans backing the artists they actually go and see.
If you've found an act on here you can't stop playing — this is how you back them properly.

Follow an artist. Subscribe. Keep them going.

We've just been named Best Independent Music Discovery & Live Events Platform 2026 (UK) at the CV Technology Excellence Awards 🏆

No fanfare, just doing what we set out to do: helping fans find gigs worth showing up for, and helping independent artists turn a good night on stage into something that lasts.

Massive thanks to everyone who's used BAM, shared a gig, or backed an artist along the way. This one's for you.
