The Scottish Pharmacist Awardsis Scotlandโ€™s premier pharmacy event, attracting over 500 pharmacists, pharmacy staff, leading members of pharmacy academia and representatives from the pharmaceutical sector. A safety alert has been issued by Abbott for some FreeStyle Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus sensors due to incorrect low glucose readings.

Patients should check their sensor serial number, stop using any affected sensors and switch to a reliable monitoring method until replacements arrive.

Pharmacy teams are encouraged to support patients in checking their sensors and reporting any issues.

Leadership update from the GPhC

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has announced Kathie Cashell as its new Chief Executive and Registrar. She will take up the post on 2 March, joining the regulator from the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Cashell described the appointment as an honour and said she looks forward to addressing the key challenges facing the pharmacy sector.

She will succeed Chris Askew, who has served as interim Chief Executive and Registrar since September and will continue in the role until March.
