🎧 Diaries of a DJ – 25 Years of Love, Laughter & Happily Ever Afters 💜
Episode: The Parts No One Sees!
Everyone thinks being in entertainment is all flashing lights, confetti cannons and adoring crowds shouting “ONE MORE TUNE!”
Aye… if only! 😂
Let me take you on a mystical journey through the glamorous world of being a DJ / PhotoBooth wrangler / van driver / DIY engineer / therapist / human caffeine sponge.
🗓 Non-Event Days (aka “Normal People Weekends”)
Spoiler: there’s no such thing.
We spend “days off” glued to laptops, on calls with couples, updating planners, chasing invoices, washing van windows, and arguing with the printer.
By 3 pm you’ve already answered “So how much for 3 hours?” fourteen times and you’ve only had half a Monster.
🚚 Event Days – The Real Show
People see us for 4 hours. We’ve already done 12.
The day starts with vehicle prep – wash, fuel, pray.
Then it’s off to storage: loading speakers heavier than small planets, finding cables you swore you replaced, and discovering that glitter never, ever dies.
Next stop: the venue. Could be 10 minutes away, could be Inverness. We never know until we’ve already said yes.
We rock up two hours early and hide in a linen cupboard like secret agents waiting for “room turnaround” so we can sprint in, build a nightclub in 30 minutes flat, and pretend we’re not sweating like we’ve run a marathon in a sauna.
🎤 Showtime!
The doors open. The lights hit. Suddenly you’re half DJ, half ringmaster, full-time vibe curator.
Requests fly in faster than confetti – “Play something everyone knows!” (translation: they don’t actually know what they want).
Uncle Jimmy tries to grab the mic. Auntie Mags wants ABBA. The Best Man wants techno. The Bride just wants to dance.
We juggle it all with a smile, because this is where the magic happens. ✨
🕛 Pack-Down O’Clock
Guests: “Night night everyone!”
DJ: “Aye cool, I’ll just lug 300 kilos of gear through a fire escape at 1 am then drive home smelling like smoke fluid and regrets.”
Maccies drive-thru at 2 am: “Yes mate, double cheeseburger and a side of back pain please.” 🍔
Unload the van back at the unit (because we’ve seen enough true-crime documentaries to know better) and fall into bed around sunrise.
☀️ Sunday – The Day of Rest (Allegedly)
Wake up looking like a zombie that’s lost a fight with a flightcase.
Head to the unit, unpack, clean, test, fix, repack, repeat.
Find that one rogue cable that vanished mid-gig. Celebrate like you’ve won the lottery.
🎶 Showbiz?
Not glamorous.
Not easy.
But it’s the best job in the world.
Here’s to the couples, the dancefloors, the chaos, and the memories that keep us doing it week after week.

✨ Saturdays Done Differently ✨
It’s not unusual for me to do two weddings on a Saturday — usually one behind the wheel 🚗 and one as part of the entertainment 🎧 — but this weekend was a little different… both roles were for the same wedding! 💍
I had the absolute honour of driving an old pal to the church (and on time 😉) with , then switching hats later with , bringing along our 360 Booth, Audio Guestbook, and the Postbox we’d dropped off on Friday!
Having known Caroline for 15 years and Adam for at least 10, it was a real privilege to play a part in making their day extra special 💜

It’s become pretty normal for me to do two weddings on a Saturday — usually one behind the wheel and one as part of the entertainment — but this weekend was a little different… it was both roles for the same wedding! 🚗🎧
I had the absolute honour of transporting an old pal to the church (and on time 😉) in the morning with Elite Central Travel, then switching hats in the evening with Wedding DJ Scotland, bringing along our 360 Booth, Audio Guestbook, and having already dropped off the Postbox on Friday.

📖 Diaries of a DJ – Part 3 🎧
25 Years of Tears, Joy & Happily Ever After – The Guests That Test Our Patience…
25 years behind the decks means I’ve seen it all… the tears, the joy, the hugs, the drama, and the occasional guest determined to test the patience of a saint. These characters are practically family now – the kind of family you love but sometimes want to disown.
🍺 The Human Request Machine
25 years on, I’ve realised this guy is at every single wedding. Fueled by lager and optimism, he appears like clockwork every 3 songs: “Play something everyone knows!”
What that something is? No idea. He doesn’t know either. He just breathes pint fumes into your headphones like that’s the secret code. Bonus points if he tries to sing it – always off key, always at volume 300.
👰 The Bride’s Cousin “DJ”
There’s always one. He arrives with a USB stick like he’s just landed the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. “I’ll smash it, mate. Trust me.”
Translation? A 20-minute remix of Darude Sandstorm, three dodgy Basshunter tracks, and a Limewire download complete with Windows XP alert sounds. After 25 years, I’ve learned: never, ever hand over the aux.
💃 Dancefloor Divas
From Dundee to Dumfries, these queens of the dancefloor have left a trail of sequins, sprained ankles and spilled Prosecco in their wake. Three drinks in and suddenly everyone’s Patrick Swayze. Cue failed Dirty Dancing lifts and the sound of NHS A&E tills ringing. Bridesmaids, stilettos, and gravity… a love story that never ends well.
📱 TikTok Critics
They march up with phones blazing: “Play this version – it’s better!” It’s usually buffering, or worse, a karaoke track. 25 years ago it was CDs, now it’s TikTok links. Technology changes, but the chaos remains the same. My booth is many things, but a Wi-Fi hotspot it is not.
🎤 The Surprise Singer
Somewhere along the way, every mic becomes an open mic. From “Sweet Caroline” to “Wonderwall,” I’ve heard it all… and so have 120 guests who definitely didn’t ask for a live performance. After 25 years, I can confirm: only 1 in 50 actually can sing. The rest? Well, they try. Loudly.
