Looking to blast away the cold and glumness of a northern January? Look no further.

Join us at Glasgow Women's Library for an evening of exploration, walk the sunbathed streets of ancient Athens with Kallis' friends, see the historic city in a new light.

This event will feature a lively conversation between Alex Penland (author) and Suki Hollywood (chair) on the themes and setting of Andrion, Alex's creative process and historic research, as well as readings from the novella. There will be room for questions from audience members, as well as an opportunity to purchase a copy of the novella and get your book signed by the author.

A tale of steampunk antiquity on the brink of a feminist revolution - Andrion will delight fans of Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles and Pullman's Dark Materials, with all the focus on family dysfunction of Hades from Supergiant Games and just as much q***r content. A coming-of-age, cross-over YA novel that offers a rare space for asexuality and polyamory.

When 16-year-old Kallis goes to see Aristophanes' latest play, she's inspired to sneak into the Assembly and try to make her name as an orator. It’s not legal, of course.
Even if she had been born a man, she is too young.

Andrion is a feminist and q***r novella, centred upon the relationship between father and daughter: he who risked everything to give her a better life, and she who’s willing to risk it all again for the sake of a more equitable future.

This novella is a dark reimagining of a classic fairytale, infused with the horrors of modern day life.

Towards the end of the event, there will be room for a Q&A session from the audience.

Fan of Stranger Things? Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries? Love your mysteries dark and q***r? This is the book, and this is the night for you!

The book: Elk Pass is a town cloaked in darkness and plagued by an unknown evil, where twenty years earlier all but one of the town’s children were stolen. That remaining child, now the deputy sheriff, is left to unravel corruption and cover up when his mentor, the town sheriff, dies unexpectedly...

The mystery unfolds as a snow storm blows in, threatening to isolate the town, leaving Deputy Bobby Taylor to deal with a plague of rats and the monsters, both human and fae, that follow.
