With Father’s Day just around the corner, we thought we'd honour some of the most remarkable dads in the animal kingdom. 🧡

From those that carry and give birth to their young, to those who endure the harshest conditions on earth for weeks on end to incubate their precious off spring. There are dads who provide protection, stability and guidance for their families and and those who foster children that aren't their own.

These incredible animal dads remind us that strength can be nurturing, leadership can be gentle, and care comes in many shapes and sizes.

Watch the clip to meet a few of these most extraordinary dads.

Three years ago, we travelled with Peter Egan on a 30-hour journey to the Zululand Rhino Orphanage, part of Zululand Conservation Trust in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, to make our short but powerful film, Keratin.

There, we met a tiny rhino calf named Lula-Boy.

Just one week old, he had been left for dead after poachers brutally killed his mother. Weak, vulnerable and facing an uncertain future, his survival was far from guaranteed.

Yesterday, we received an update from our friends at Helping Rhinos — and what an update it was.

This incredible clip shows Helping Rhinos founder, Simon Jones with Lula-Boy today... fit, healthy and absolutely HUGE!

Witnessing the devastating realities of poaching was one of the most difficult parts of making Keratin, but stories like Lula-Boy's remind us why these dedicated conservation teams never give up — and why we continue to tell these important stories.

A huge thank you to the extraordinary teams at Zululand Rhino Orphanage and Helping Rhinos, whose unwavering commitment gives animals like Lula-Boy a second chance at life.

Moments like this are what make it all worthwhile.

The kindest, tamest and most trusting little soul. And just look at that face!!!

We're proud to sponsor Nature's A Hoot, the entertaining and insightful podcast from from our friends at the Hawk Conservancy Trust.

In the latest episode, Falcon: Top Gun of the Skies, Deputy Head of Living Collection, Tom Morath introduces Chaucer, a magnificent Lanner Falcon, while Conservation & Research Coordinator Dr Jamie McKaughan explores the fascinating world of large falcons and the conservation challenges they face.

The episode highlights the remarkable recovery of Peregrine Falcons in some regions, while also examining the ongoing threats facing falcon populations worldwide, including illegal wildlife trade, critical data gaps, and emerging environmental pressures. The future of these incredible birds will depend on the choices we make today.

Watch this clip featuring Tom and Chaucer, then catch the full episode and explore the complete Nature's A Hoot series on the Hawk Conservancy Trust YouTube channel or follow the link in comments. Audio versions are also available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify.

Throwback to Summer 2019 - Black, White & Vivisection ft. Ricky Gervais & Dr. Ray Greek.

What originally began as a plan to film a few short ‘information’ clips quickly evolved into something much bigger.

As the conversation unfolded between Ricky Gervais and Dr Ray Greek, it became clear that the discussion touched on issues that were deeply important, complex, and (for some) controversial — so we kept the cameras rolling.

The result was a 30-minute short film documenting the full conversation as it happened.

At the time, the film sparked strong reactions around the ongoing debate on animal research and experimentation. Years later, those conversations remain just as relevant.

But what we do know is that this is one of the most informed, compelling and thought-provoking discussions out there.

On the front line in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, this enormous 70kg dog was surviving in conditions few could imagine.

Believed to have been bred for guarding and protection, he was highly aggressive, traumatised and impossible to approach safely. The only way the veterinary team could help him was by using a dart to sedate him before carrying out the urgent treatment and neutering he desperately needed.

This footage was captured during our recent trip to Ukraine with Peter Egan filming the extraordinary work of Nowzad — rescuing abandoned and displaced animals, supporting overwhelmed shelters, and delivering large-scale TNVR programmes in some of the most difficult conditions imaginable.

Today, this dog is safe in a shelter in Hostomel awaiting a second chance at life. Without organisations like Nowzad, dogs like him would likely face a very different outcome.

Stories like this are why this work matters.

This is a short snippet from our recent trip to Ukraine to document the incredible work of Nowzad, supporting animal shelters, animal welfare volunteers, and implementing a TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate & Release) programme in war affected areas.

In every town and city across Ukraine, the scars of war are impossible to ignore.

This short moment was filmed in a cemetery in Lviv, where hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers are buried — one of countless similar sites across the country.

Every morning at 9am, Ukraine observes a minute’s silence. People stop walking. Cars stop moving. Life pauses completely in remembrance of those lost.

Here, alongside Farthing (founder of Nowzad), Peter Egan and .mocharska (Nowzad Country Director in Ukraine), we experienced that silence first hand. It was deeply moving and something that will stay with us forever.

Whilst this footage doesn’t show the animal welfare work we were there to document, it is a poignant reminder of the human cost of this war and the reality faced daily by the Ukrainian people.

Seeing the devastation and heartbreak first hand had a profound effect on all of us, far beyond what can ever truly be conveyed through the media coverage we receive here.

More to come when the film is released.... watch this space.

Waiting for a flight out of Krakow with .j.egan after five days filming in Ukraine with

What this team is doing for animals caught in the war is extraordinary.

Working close to the front line, they’re rescuing abandoned dogs and cats, moving them to safety in shelters in the west of the country, while also vaccinating, neutering and helping prevent rabies from taking hold.

What’s happening in Ukraine is slowly being drowned out by the noise of other global events — but the devastation here remains immense.

Every person we met had lost someone. And yet, despite everything, the Ukrainian people remain incredibly resilient, kind and determined. It’s difficult to put into words the scale of destruction inflicted on this country and its people.

What struck me most was the compassion shown towards displaced animals. People are putting themselves in harm’s way to save as many lives as possible. There are so many stories here.

Having now seen firsthand where donations to Nowzad go, I can honestly say they are doing remarkable work in terrifying conditions.

Our hope is to make a film that does justice to both the people and animals caught up in this war.

We’re busy preparing to head to Ukraine.

In the coming days, Orange Planet Pictures along with .j.egan will be on the ground documenting the extraordinary work of as they carry out a large-scale TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) programme providing vital, life-saving care to animals caught in the midst of conflict.

This is work that often goes unseen: animals injured, abandoned, and struggling to survive, and the dedicated teams risking everything to help them. We’re honoured to be there to capture these stories and share the impact of compassion in the most challenging circumstances.

To follow their incredible work more closely, make sure to check out and support Nowzad across their social media channels.
