🎩 On this day, 15 July 2013, we said goodbye to Mel Smith.

A brilliant British comedian, writer, and director, Mel Smith was half of the comedy duo "Smith and Jones". He helped shape 80s and 90s British humour with wit that still makes us laugh out loud today. Beyond the jokes, he reminded us that laughter is often what we remember most.

This morning, I sat at my desk with a steaming cup of tea, the soft rustle of handwritten notes beside me, and the quiet hum of thought in the air.

Writing someone’s funeral service is never just about words. It’s about capturing a life the love, the laughter, the little quirks that made them them. It’s about creating something that feels true, personal, and deeply human.

I often pause and think, What would their family want to hear? What will help them smile through the tears? I also play the music choices as I feel that I can get to know the person a little better.

These moments at my desk aren’t glamorous. But they are meaningful. And I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
