It's one of our last reviews for 2025 and our website, in many ways, couldn't pick a more apt record to review at this time of the year. The American Blues-Rock Guitar Supremo Gary Hoey , releases another highly entertaining musical chapter of his long-running, Xmas related project called Ho! Ho! Hoey: Christmas Time Is Here, where Hoey revisits and re-shapes old time Holiday classics in his very unmistakable style, with a highly creative Hard-Rock, Surf and Metal approach and, if we may add, in superb fashion too. You can find the full review of Ho! Ho! Hoey: Christmas Time Is Here at the link here below:

It was another tough choice, in 2025, to choose the artist deserving the Bluebird Reviews Best Live Act Award for 2025. All the 3 nominees in this year's shortlist, Icelandic chart-toppers Sigur Rós, American Rock sensations Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the immensely talented American singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega all delivered among the best live tours of their career to date, but, in the end, the class, charisma, charme and enormous talent of Suzanne Vega, an artist that can be considered among the best and most inspired storytellers in the world through her marvelous songwriting, overcame her illustrious fellow rivals in the race to this year's Award.
Many congratulations to the great Suzanne Vega, winner of 2025's Best Live Act Award.

She had to fight against two heavyweight albums, like the Grammy nominated Young Fashioned Ways by American Blues and Blues-Rock living legends Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Bobby Rush and another fellow hugely talented artist, the Swedish singer and songwriter Anna Von Hausswolff, who chiseled an incredible return to the music scene through the album Iconoclasts, but in the end, the Swiss-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Yumi Ito was the deserving winner of the Bluebird Reviews Award as Artist Of The Year for 2025.
Ito's new album, Lonely Island, revealed an artist at the top of her game and, furthermore, as we described in the review of Lonely Island earlier this year, "It is impossible to pick up a specific highlight, from Yumi Ito's new album, because all the 10 compositions included in this modern masterpiece contain artistry at 360 degrees, delivered, at every point of the record, in the most organic, emotionally unfiltered and both stylistically and creatively impeccable style."
Many congratulations once again to Yumi Ito, winner of the Artist Of The Year Award.

Our website couldn't wrap up another formidable year of music and live performances without announcing first who are the winners of our annual Bluebird Reviews Awards. It was a very close call for both categories (Artist Of The Year and Best Live Act) but in the end, we had our winners. While we will post more details about the winners per category, you can already have a preview of this year's winners of the Awards at the link here below:

Among the many gifts that music distils, through its many forms and shapes, there is also the gift of escapism. In that respect, the fabulous piano solo live performance recorded in 2024 from the Swedish based Jazz pianist and composer Adam Forkelid and now released as a live album called Dreams, fully accomplishes this goal, thanks to a completely improvised performance where creativity, talent and instinct walk hand in hand with breathtaking results. You can find the full review of Dreams now published by our website at the link here below:

While our Career Awards (2, this year!) have been assigned (Minimalist Iconic Pioneer Terry Riley and Italian 80's Alternative Art champion Bastardons), the Bluebird Reviews Awards for Artist Of The Year and Best Live Act for 2025 are due to be assigned later this month.

The Blues/Rock project called Blood Brothers, created by two of the most loved and respecte American Ace guitarists and singer-songwriters Albert Castiglia and Mike Zito saw the two artists soaring high in the charts worldwide in 2023 through their debut album. Now, in 2025, the Blood Brothers are back with a brand new album called Help Yourself, which sees both Zito and Castiglia bringing to the Blues-Rock table a generous and eclectic second helping dose of gritty 70's Psychedelia, Soul, 60's Rock'N'Roll, Blues and Gospel in their own unmistakable style. The name Matt Bianco has been and still is, for the past 40-plus years, synonymous of uplifting Latin and Jazz tunes crafted masterfully by the singer-songwriter behind the band’s name, Mark Reilly. Now, with a rather exciting and irresistibly catchy new album out called Masquerader, Matt Bianco nails another winning record crammed with great songs, inspired songwriting and exquisite vocal deliveries from Reilly himself. You can find the full review of Masquerader published on our website at the link here below:

Denmark is one of the most prolific European countries that keeps on delivering artists of the finest quality, no matter whether they are Blues, Rock or Jazz artists, just to mention a few. One of the latest discoveries for our website is the debut album of Danish composer and trumpeter Rolf Thofte who, together with his Quintet, has delivered an album of rare beauty called Martha's Dance, a record that marries creativity and talent equally in such impressive, effortless way. You can find the full review published on our website of Martha's Dance at the link here below:

The hugely talented English pianist and composer Max Richter celebrates the 10th Anniversary of his 8 and 1/2 hours Magnum Opus called Sleep with the release of a sort of condensed version of said album, called Sleep Circle. The 90 minutes carefully chosen by the German-born composer for Sleep Circle are an absolute joy to listen to and one of those rare records capable to make the listeners to reconnect with their inner selves with the enormous class and talent emerging from Richter’s compositions.

Family love can often spark flashes of inspiration, in a music artist, which, in the case of the supremely talented American Guitar Supremo and singer-songwriter Eric Gales, means generating even more talent than Gales is naturally provided with. In a moving tribute record dedicated to his brother, the late great Little Jimmy King and aptly called A Tribute To LJK, Gales surpasses himself in delivering a record that is not only a dedication of love and respect to his brother but also an exquisite masterclass in Blues-Rock guitar playing and vocal delivery of the highest quality. Many aficionados of Free-Form Contemporary Jazz have come across, through the years, to the music and the talent of the Swiss-based artist Yumi Ito, thanks to her many remarkable skills as a singer-songwriter, pianist and composer. This exceptional artist has now released a brand new record called Lonely Island, where Ito displays a more intimate and stripped to the bone sonic approach (piano solo and voice) that confirms once again, through this very emotional record, the amazing skills of an artist that enchants the listener with her powerful singing and imaginative, improvisational piano playing. You can find the full review of Lonely Island at the link here below:
