🕰️ With this autumn in full swing, this week we’re taking a look back to an autumn from the past. Here’s a from our autumn 2024 issue of Energy Global! 🕰️

From our autumn 2024 issue, Frank Forsberg, Project Manager, ALICE Technologies, USA, discusses how artificial intelligence can be used to optimise and speed up project delivery of offshore energy assets. 🤖

“By using AI, owners and contractors can rapidly test and prototype different construction schedules to find the most efficient way to use labour, machinery, and materials. Construction teams can use AI to optimise and explore solutions starting from their baseline programmes or they can use AI to create one starting from a 3D model. AI can also be used to quantify the cost and time impact different scenarios would have on the project, such as the length of build time and the method of transport for the foundations.” 💬

It’s time to jump back in with another from Energy Global. 💥

This week, our destination is the Philippines. 🇵🇭

Levanta Renewables – Southeast Asia’s leading renewable energy platform –has secured the development of a solar and storage project in the Visayas under the Philippines’ fourth Green Energy Auction (GEA-4). 🙌

Spanning approximately 155 hectares, the project will feature a 166 MWp ground-mounted solar farm integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS). With a planned capacity of 175 MWac and an estimated average capacity factor of 43%, it represents a major capital investment aimed at accelerating the Philippines’ clean energy transition. ☀️ 🔋

It’s Friday so let’s celebrate with a from Energy Global! 💥

In our autumn issue, Svante Bundgaard, CEO, and Jens Taggart Pelle, Vice President of Technical Sales, Aalborg CSP A/S, advocate for the conversion of coal-fired power plants into thermal storage facilities for renewable energy, saving time and costs towards advancing the energy transition. 🚀

A substantial increase in the amount of intermittent renewable energy produced is to be expected in the coming years, and this will require storage of energy from wind turbines and solar parks if current consumption patterns are to be maintained. 📈

The need to store energy from solar panels and wind turbines in an efficient and flexible way will increase significantly in the years to come. There are advantages to storing renewable energy and saving it for later use when there are peak loads on the grid and when renewable energy production is low. This is why renewable energy experts see great potential in building storage facilities that promote the energy transition. 💚

Let’s pack our bags and head somewhere new with Energy Global – here’s this week’s ! ✈️

Our destination this Tuesday is Kazakhstan. 🇰🇿

Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, has entered into a landmark collaboration in Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny wind farm, the country’s first and most ambitious renewable energy project to date, signing a letter of award (LOA) to supply 124 of its advanced 6.5 MW wind turbines. 📝

The agreement was signed during Kazakhstan Energy Week in Astana. The Mirny project exemplifies how strategic investment, technological innovation, and international co-operation can transform a nation’s energy landscape. 🤝

With an estimated annual output of 4 billion kWh, the project will power over 1 million households while preventing 3.5 million tpy of carbon dioxide emissions. 💚

Let’s get the weekend in full swing with a from Energy Global! 🚀

This week, we’re exploring another article from our autumn issue. 🍁

In this issue, Jens Wulff, CEO EMEA & India, NEUMAN & ESSER (NEA GROUP), Germany, outlines how an understanding of the whole hydrogen value chain can help reach the growing demand for high-purity hydrogen. 🤔

Decarbonising or de-fossilising the economy on the path to climate neutrality requires a transition to green technologies across the energy, industry, construction, and mobility sectors. Due to the volatility of electricity generation from renewable energies such as wind and solar power, reliable and cost-effective storage and transportation options for large amounts of energy are of key importance. 🚨

Hydrogen plays a crucial role for these applications; it can be stored and transported and is a key driver for the decarbonisation of the economy, industry, and energy supply, which contributes to overcoming the climate crisis. 💪

🍁 It’s time to dive back into our autumn issue with another from Energy Global! 🍁

The profitability of wind turbines is determined by productivity and availability. Condition monitoring supports maintenance decisions, identifies potential cost savings, and avoids unforeseen failures. 🤔

In this issue, David Futter, Condition Monitoring Consultancy at
Bachmann Monitoring GmbH, and Frank Fladerer, Bachmann electronic GmbH, compare the advantages and challenges of doing this in house or through an external partner. 💪

“Monitoring the condition of wind turbines is a complex art. A wide variety of sensors are installed at selected points on the drive train, rotor blades, and tower. These sensors deliver a continuous stream of raw data. Without appropriate processing, the data is worthless. Only after processing is it possible to visualise and interpret the numerous possible effects if small changes over time on certain sensor readings, and to assess the potential consequences.” 💬

Let’s get this week in full swing with a treat from Energy Global! 💡

This week, we’re taking a look around Belgium. 🇧🇪

Sungrow Europe has announced the grid connection of the first 400 MWh of ENGIE’s 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project in Vilvoorde, Belgium. 🔌

The largest of its kind in mainland Europe, the project utilises 320 units of Sungrow’s Power Titan liquid-cooled battery storage units. 💪

The second and final phase of this BESS project is set to connect to the grid by the end of 2025. This two-phase development is set to enhance grid stability and provide reliable, clean energy for up to 96 000 households in Belgium. ⚡

It’s time to dive into a from Energy Global! 🥂

This week, we’re taking a closer look at our autumn issue. 🍁

In this issue, Matt Green, Green Volt Project Director, details the importance of floating offshore wind for the UK’s renewable energy targets and sketches out the path ahead. 🧐

Offshore wind is a key part of the UK’s energy mix and will remain vitally important as the country transitions to a cleaner energy system, racing to reach net zero. Already, the floating offshore wind market is scaling up significantly in the UK, which is home to the Green Volt project – set to become the largest commercial scale floating offshore wind farm in the world. 💪

Developers Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn are now focused on delivery. The article explores how the project is making rapid progress towards getting online, boosting the supply chain and engaging the local community, and paving the way for future floating wind projects. 📈
