Fertilizer plants operate under tight safety margins, with high energy consumption and complex process interactions. During start-ups, shutdowns, load changes, and abnormal events, operators must maintain process stability, product quality, and safety at the same time.

Traditional training methods are not capable of easily recreating such rare but high-impact scenarios. As a result, operators often face these situations for the first time in the real plant environment.

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group have approved a new framework to mitigate the impact of the global energy and fertilizer crisis on African countries. 🌍

The Global Energy And Fertilizer Crisis Response Framework (GEFCRF), approved on 1 September 2026, has enabled the Bank Group to deliver timely, targeted support to address the immediate needs stemming from the crisis and to strengthen African member countries against future shocks.

Europe's largest industrial carbon capture facility has officially been inaugurated at Yara International's fertilizer plant in Sluiskil, the Netherlands. The project establishes the first complete cross-border value chain for capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO2 (CCS). 🇳🇱

Yara Sluiskil, Europe's largest ammonia and fertilizer plant can capture and liquefy up to 800 000 tpy of CO2 from ammonia production thereby avoiding carbon taxation on these volumes. The CO2 will be transported by ship to Norway, where it will be permanently stored beneath the seabed by Northern Lights.

Ammobia, a developer of breakthrough low-cost, modular ammonia production technology, has announced an agreement with Lummus Technology, a global provider of process technologies and value-driven energy solutions, to license and deploy Ammobia’s ammonia production system. 🤝 📃

Through this partnership, Ammobia’s production technology is to be deployed in commercial installations worldwide and used in integrated solutions that complement Lummus’ portfolio, including marine fuels and energy storage and transport. Ammobia’s ‘Haber-Bosch 2.0’ process will be the first ammonia technology in Lummus’ portfolio.

The Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and International Financial Institutions (IFIs) have released a joint statement regarding strengthening fertilizer supply chains. 📜 📣

The Multilateral Development Banks, recognise that food security remains one of the world's most pressing development challenges.

Repeated shocks have exposed structural vulnerabilities in global fertilizer supply chains, disproportionately affecting smallholder farmers and low-income households.

Increased investment in global fertilizer supply chains can support economic corridors that reduce vulnerability to future shocks. In addition to ensuring fertilizer availability, strengthening long-term food security requires improving fertilizer-use efficiency, diversifying nutrient sources, restoring healthy soils and natural capital, and investing in resilient food systems.

MDBs are positioned to support this through coordinated financing, policy dialogue, knowledge and innovation, and private sector engagement.
