Given False Walls' commitment to the CD format, it's encouraging to see this article in the Guardian. And as a 62-year-old, I'd make the case for CDs to all ages: the physical format, sound quality, album sequencing/duration, packaging/design, additional visual/written content (and price!) are all part of the experience.

His music had the discipline of contemporary composition but the instincts �of a record producer. He understood the seductive power �of a pulse, the dramatic possibilities of repetition and the importance �of timbre. He could write for an orchestra while thinking like �someone working inside a recording studio.⁣

It is also why The Beating of Wings doesn’t feel like “classical music �made accessible to pop listeners”, nor “pop music made intellectual”. �It is something more interesting: a composer discovering �that the boundary between those things was largely imaginary.”
