We haven’t done this for a while but we are bringing back ‘Total Grooming’s top groomer’ feature, to highlight someone from the industry to our followers.

Our Groomer of the month this week is the tremendous Lia Jayne Godding!

We asked her a few simple questions:

Tell us briefly the story of your career so far, and where you find yourself in today

I trained as a hairdresser for a few years whilst working in a kennels and didn't enjoy it. I knew I wanted to work with animals and then I saw a job going for a dog grooming assistant and that's where my career started. I trained as a groomer, then moved onto working for a mobile grooming company, then started out on my own. I eventually got my own salon which I had for 9 years and sold it a few years ago and now work from home in my little salon. In amongst all of that I've won multiple awards, judged YKC, won the Liz Paul award for Up and Grooming Stylist of the year and currently captain for Groom Team England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, I’m an ambassador for several companies WOW Grooming, Top to Tail. I also work sometimes on sets as a groomer for photoshoots, adverts etc.... Which I absolutely love.

What do you love most about the grooming industry?

Meeting other groomers and becoming friends with them. Sharing stories, tips and tricks and working with them at events like Crufts.

What are your short and long-term goals?

Short-term working from home whilst I find the right place for my long term and dream which is ..... I would love to own a dog cafe with a pet shop and groomers. I also would love to work more in the TV/film industry dog grooming.

Please share any advice or words of encouragement you would like to offer fellow groomers?

You will always learn something new every day. Don't follow the pack and be your own person. Make friends, build relationships, everyone who loves this industry is here to help. If you're struggling and there's a groomer you look up to send them a message and I'm sure they will help you out. ♥️
