Closed lane on A38 northbound set to reopen "before Christmas", says council.

🚘 We expect to re-open the closed lane on the A38 in Filton before Christmas.

The inside lane of the westbound A38 has been closed since the summer for active travel improvements between the Filton roundabout and the Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood (CPNN) entrance.

The majority of the work is now complete to support those who walk, wheel (use a mobility scooter, wheelchair or pushchair) or cycle by making it safer and more convenient.

This includes a two-way segregated cycle path, dropped kerbs, improved crossings across side roads and new signage.

However, the new cycle path still needs to be surfaced and this work will be carried out in early January. The exact dates are yet to be confirmed.

Upcoming road closure on Filton Avenue (23rd/24th Nov 2024).

Upcoming road closure on Filton Avenue (23rd/24th Nov 2024).

⚠️ Filton Avenue will be closed at the A4174 Ring Road junction for the weekend of 23 to 24 November.

Filton Avenue, from the A4174 Ring Road to Station Road, will be closed from 8am on Saturday 23 November until 8pm on Sunday 24 November for underground ducting to be put in place for communication cables.

We are carrying out the essential work over one weekend to avoid peak times and minimise disruption. We have selected a weekend without a Bristol Rovers home game and before the busy Christmas shopping period.

A signed diversion route (pictured) will remain in place throughout the closure. The diversion is the A4174 Ring Road, Gloucester Road North, B4469 Muller Road, Filton Avenue and vice versa.

Filton Avenue will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians.

The ducting work started on the A4174 at the Filton Air Balloon Roundabout and is continuing along the A4174 to Coldharbour Lane. We are expecting to complete the work by the winter.

We apologise in advance for any disruption caused and would like to thank you for your understanding.

Highway improvement schemes taking place in Filton at present "have caused disruption", says council.

Highway improvement schemes taking place in Filton at present "have caused disruption", says council.

We recognise the highway improvement schemes taking place in Filton at present have caused disruption and we apologise for any inconvenience to the travelling public.

There will be two lanes of the eastbound A4174 Link Road open to traffic very soon which should ease disruption. The ducting work crew will then be working in the inside lane as the road widens to three lanes approaching the MoD roundabout.

This work is to support the new arena development and has started now so the network is well prepared to deal with the impact of this major new venue using technology to help ease traffic flow when it opens.

While the work is underway, some traffic light timings have also been altered, allowing more ‘green light’ time to try to improve the northbound traffic flow.

The weather has unfortunately slowed down our progress as the recent heavy rain has meant we have been unable to lay the surfacing.

This work is to upgrade our traffic signalling system and introduce traffic monitoring CCTV to make the network more efficient at detecting build ups and faults.

This project, and walking and cycling work on the nearby A38, is scheduled to complete by the end of the year.

We will keep you updated on future traffic management in the coming weeks as the ducting work crosses the MoD roundabout and moves towards Coldharbour Lane.

We thank people for their continued patience as we deliver these important improvements.
