Morayvia in Kinloss proudly unveiled its latest exhibit yesterday – the culmination of seven years hard work by dedicated volunteers – Westland Whirlwind HAR.10 XJ723, commemorating the bravery and professionalism of its crew during the Sea Gem disaster on 27 December 1965.

The unveiling ceremony at Morayvia was attended by around 80 invited guests, including representatives from the Royal Air Force, 39 Engineer Regiment, veterans’ organisations, civic leaders, supporters of Morayvia and members of the families connected with the historic rescue.

Responding in appalling weather conditions in the North Sea, the crew demonstrated exceptional courage during one of the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Service’s most significant peacetime rescue operations.

The ceremony reached its climax as the Royal Air Force Ensign was lowered to reveal the names of the crew of Whirlwind XJ723 on that day.

A neglected and overgrown garden on Forres High Street is being transformed into a welcoming educational and wellbeing space by local gardening fanatics.

Avid gardeners Steve Storrs and Steve Clemson have, with the help of volunteers, cleared decades of brambles and weeds growing in the close next to Ashers Bakery on the high street, with a vision to transform it into natural space for the community to enjoy.

Ashers Secret Garden will not only be a place to chill out, but an educational space for anyone interested in nature, with workshops planned in horticulture and crafts

An artist who has rented a studio space in Forres for three years, has bought the building with her brother to develop it as a 'positive and inspiring space for artists and creatives'

Sasha and Jools McMahon have recently bought Orchard Road Studios on Orchard Road, where Sasha has rented space for the past three years.

She said: “There’s so much talent locally, and we’re excited to be part of helping that flourish. Orchard Road Studios is already a lovely wee community, and we’re thrilled to build on that even more.”

Together, they hope to build on the studio’s reputation as a welcoming creative hub in Forres, supporting local makers, encouraging collaboration and helping the local art scene continue to grow.
