🎄🎁 The sound of pipes and drums will entertain shoppers on Thursday evening (18 Dec) when 14 town centre shops that would normally be closed are open till 8pm.

Forres and District Pipe Band have kindly agreed to play outside the Tolbooth from 6:30pm.

What a great evening this is turning out to be. Come for the shops, stay for the music!

🎄 Do you want to shop local but can't get to the shops when they're open? All the following Forres outlets will open late on a single night in December to allow people who can't make it in the daytime to do their festive shopping.

The following shops will all be open till 8pm next Thursday (18 December):

🎄 Two establishments will generously open their doors on Christmas Day to welcome anyone for food, warmth and festive cheer.

Forres Baptist Church at Clovenside will offer a free Christmas Day lunch between noon and 2pm for anyone who would otherwise be alone at Christmas. Email [email protected] if you would like to go.

K's Coffee Shop Forres in Falconer Avenue will be open from noon till 3pm for anyone who would like to celebrate the day. There will be soups, sandwiches, cakes and refreshments available (all free of charge). All we ask is that if you wish to have a hot drink you pay for this. No need to book, just turn up on the day!

Although we expect these places to be busy, do spread the word to those you think will benefit from this act of generosity.

The Forres Family Market is a year old, and today was the fifth one to be held in the old Tesco site on Gordon Street.

I think we can safely say the festive season is well under way.

We have nearly 50 Christmas events listed across the region on www.moray.events, with 17 of them happening today and tomorrow alone.

With the Christmas lights being switch on at Forres and Keith, markets and fairs in almost every Moray town and village, and Santa popping in and out as he gets ready for his big day, our handy guide will help make sure you don't miss anything.

It's all here in one place and all in date order (and no algorithm!), and if you know of any we've missed, do tell!

🎄Are you ready for this year's bumper Christmas edition of the quarterly Forres Family Markets?

It's on this Sunday 30 November from 10am till 4pm at the old Tesco site down by the ForresmechanicsOfficial football ground.

This year, thanks to the Rotary Club, Santa and his elves will be spreading festive cheer in his grotto from 12 till 2pm (£3 per child, 0-8 years, inc wrapped gift)

With more than 60 stalls booked, you'll also enjoy live music, on-site bar and a hands-on craft zone.

Here's the scene from last year's event – a bustling collection of crafters, makers and food vendors with entertainment and family-friendly activities.

Perfect for that unique Christmas present, or hand-made gift – but also a lovely day out.

We went along to see Brodie Illuminated, this year celebrating the elements of fire, air, earth and water. Yet another amazing route weaving through the grounds of Brodie Castle & Estate NTS – expect spectacular colours, projections and animations.

🌺 Lest We Forget 🌺

Today we remember those who fought for our freedom and the sacrifices they made.

There will be a parade leading to the Forres War memorial.

A service in St Leonard's Church will start at 9:30am and a parade will form on the high street to the memorial starting around 10:30am.

The spooks will be out at Twinning Link on Halloween! But it's all for a good cause...

Pauline Stewart's frightening fundraiser is open from 5pm on Friday 31 October with raffles.

All proceeds will go to Cash for Kids North Scotland and the lights will stay on till the raffle prizes run out.
