Thank you to the volunteers who braved the weather this morning! It was great to see good numbers helping out to open the trails.

We managed to open 3 trails today LLS, Forgotten trail and forgotten secret, and sweep the end of the cackle natural to brash away the previous storm damage

Well that’s one way to bring the tools and cake up to a dig site.

Well done to all the volunteers who braved the weather today and came out to help us reopen LLS, Forgotten Secret, Forgotten Trail and tidy up and make safe Cackle Natural. Loads of great work done, much more than anticipated.

✅ It's nice to see a bit more green on Trailforks now! ✅

⚠️ See trail closure status below and on Trailforks 👇 ⚠️

Erracht region - open ✅
Strone region - open ✅
Torlundy region- open with some trail closures ⚠️
Glen Nevis region - closed ⛔️

Over the past few weeks the team and volunteers have been working hard to re-open our regions. First Erracht, Strone and now we are focusing our efforts on Torlundy and Glen Nevis. We have already been working away on Torlundy but we have a fair bit of work left to do so please be careful in these two regions.

We're looking at putting in a concerted effort into getting as much open back up as we can but we are asking the public and the mountain bike community for patience and to refrain from tackling windblown trees or establishing re-routs as it's very dangerous work and only complicates the mountain bike communities relationship with our land managers.

Please pay attention to Trailforks and our instagram stories for live updates on trail closures and issues. If you do spot any trail issues please send us a DM or report using the Trailforks reporting feature here

Just over a week has passed since storm Amy. Over the last week we have been out and
assessed the damage - which was quite overwhelming to begin with as so many trails had been affected. Following assessing the damage we have had small groups out working away and clearing the trails. In the core LTA group we have put in well over 50 hours on the trails over the last 7 days - in particular Robbie, Stewart and Andrew who have put in the bulk of
the work (thank you!). We know a few others have been out too so well done anyone that
has done any clearing.

So time for a wee update on where we are. Many forest roads and access paths are still
closed and FLS will be reopening these over the next wee while. The vast majority of the
bike trails themselves are now clear. Although free of trees blocking the trails, there is still a
fair bit of debris like sticks lying on the trail surface, plus a few areas of trail that have been
damaged - but mostly passable.

A week ago we were looking at the trails and seeing only a few clear, with the majority
blocked with fallen trees. Now we are looking at the majority being open and only a few
closed. Most notably Top Secret in Torlundy has had massive damage and unlikely to
reopen, Captains left in Erracht and the Braveheart trails in Glen Nevis are also badly
affected and have beyond what we have the capability to clear at the moment.

In the next few weeks we will see if there is any way we can replace lost trails, but this is
likely to take time and planning.

For now Erracht and Nevis Range are in pretty good condition. Strone and Torlundy need
trees cleared on access tracks. Off course there are trails outside of the Fort William area -
please comment if you have any news on the other surrounding trail areas

⚠️ FLS Update ⚠️

“FLS West Region would advise the public that due to the recent storm there are numerous trails and forest roads affected by fallen trees and debris in all Forests throughout Lochaber . This includes forest roads and trails around Glen Loy ,Erracht , Camisky , Mucomir , Loch Arkaig ,Clunes and Loch Lochy.

There will be an ongoing assessment of damage over the next few weeks however to date we have not assessed every trail and route in our forests and would advise the public that they are likely to encounter fallen trees ,debris and other obstacles on trails and roads which can affect or obstruct access.

We would again advise the public to take care when exercising their access rights in FLS West Region forests over the coming weeks and months as the cleaning up operation is likely to take some time to conclude.”

⚠️ Update on works done so far ⚠️

In the aftermath of storm Amy we have been busy inspecting the trail network and working hard to open the trails. If you do venture out and spot something needing fixed please let us know (DM us or report on Trailforks) so it can be dealt with. Please don’t try to sort it yourself, it only complicates Landowners relations. The plan is to work systematically, starting with Erracht then Strone, Torlundy and finally Glen Nevis. If you’re looking for any place to ride, best to stick to Erracht or Nevis Range for now, the rest isnt worth it.

Erracht region - open with trail closures ✅
Nevis Range - open with trail closures ✅
Strone region - closed ⛔️
Glen Nevis region - closed ⛔️
Torlundy region - closed ⛔️
