We’ve moved all the plates into the machine room, which feels like a little victory in itself.

These 8ft × 4ft, 300kg monolithic reverbs are truly unlike anything else. Each one imparts its own distinct sonic characteristic—you can get seriously fussy picking the perfect plate for a vocal or a snare drum. 🎛️

All four—two valve, one solid state, and a rare quad equipped with both valve and solid state amps—will be ready and patched into our new workflow when we (Black Island) open next month.

Black Island is seeking a Studio Intern.

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who is passionate about music—specifically recording and producing in a professional studio environment.
You should have a technical mind and a strong work ethic to support our daily operations. No previous experience is necessary, although a background in music (either recording or performing) is preferred.
A detailed training programme will be provided so the successful applicant can gain knowledge in all aspects of studio operations across both analog and digital domains.

What the role entails:
A Studio Intern is an entry-level staff member responsible for the essential day-to-day operations that keep the facility running smoothly. While the role is often considered a “rite of passage” or an informal apprenticeship, it is the standard starting point for anyone pursuing a career as an audio engineer or producer. Days in the studio can be long and are not for the faint-hearted; crashing on a sofa between sessions will happen from time to time.

Main Responsibilities:
Assisting with session preparation.
Maintaining the studio, including general cleaning of the building and pro audio equipment.
Handling “runs” for food or supplies for staff and clients.
Supporting lead engineers during recording and mixing sessions.

Requirements:
An amenable human who is good to be around.

Deep passion for music and working with musicians.

Punctuality and reliability are essential.

A proactive, “first-in, last-out” approach.

Discretion and professionalism in a high-tier creative environment.

This is a merit-based position offering hands-on experience in a professional studio environment!

Details:
The internship is open to anyone 17–40 YOA.
Salary is negotiable based on previous experience and Pro Tools/ITB skills. Total beginner? We’ll cover your expenses while you learn the craft. Only apply if this is your life’s passion!
