Bishops Cannings FC 5 vs 2 Great Western FC

A very slow and but even start to the game, did make it seem like it was going to be a closely fought game, with few chances.

Ethan Howard hit the back of the net at about 16mins gone, but it continued evenly until the half time whistle.

Brilliant game of two ends saw it competitive but without finesse. Both teams had chances, especially with Tom North well saving the dubiously given penalty to Great Western. Two penalty saves in two games, pure brilliance.

Half time came and went and it was back to it for bishops. Ethan banging in his second, two mins after the restart.

Great Western did however manage to find some form of technical ability and were let through the bishops defence to hit the net for 2-1

That was clearly the kick up the arse that Bishops needed, as Syzmon Raczek and Harry Drewitt smashed one in each, before Ethan grabbed his third for the hat trick.

Manager Kieren made some changes which saw Oliver Barnes, Tom Sharples take the places of Harry Drewitt and Tom Buckles respectively.

Handbags were certainly thrown around in some after which saw three yellows handed out, for who though, we aren’t sure.

A very soft free kick was given to Great Western which was in a direct position and they capitalised on it.

Syzmon has the penalty saved after it was awarded to Oliver Barnes after he was chopped down like a tree, referee got that spot on.

Syzmon and skipper Ben Haffenden make way for Tom Haugh and Will Musgrove to sure up the 3 points and steady the ship; however, the referee seems to be handing out yellow cards like penny sweets in the dying stages.

The referee manages to keep it from boiling over and Bishops stood strong and shred up the win to make it three wins on the bounce, before they take a trip to Marlborough to one of most unappealing pitches in the league, but after their trip there last year, there’s nothing to stop Cannings taking three points there too.

Who will be the chosen charities for 2026?

Do you know of a fantastic cause who might benefit from some exposure and help from By The Bridge 2026.

Do let them get in touch, with a bit of information about them and whether they’d like to be involved.

Remember, 7 seven venues, means 7 charities.

Standing with Stout

Kilmarnock were forced to remove their announcement post for a new signing after a handful of sad, bitter grown “men” left vile comments on what should have been the happiest day of her life - signing her first professional contract. 😢

Instead of celebrating, Skye Stout has had her moment stolen and her signing wiped from Killie’s social media.

Let’s flood her with support from real football fans and the wider football family. ❤️

Bishops Cannings collect 3 points after knocking 6 past Redhouse.

BCFC 6 - 4 Redhouse FC - Tuesday 12th August - Green Lane, Devizes 1930 KO

After an incredibly dodgy first 15 minutes which saw Redhouse 0-3 up, the penny dropped for Bishops Cannings, and top scorer from last season Szymon Raczek drove the first home for the hosts. Momentum gathered and soon after saw Ethan Howard get his first of a brace.

Oliver Barnes grabbed the third for Bishops bringing the score to 3-4. The build up, momentum and determination from the Home team definitely shone through as Szymon grabbed his second to level the game.

Just after the hour mark, Ethan completed his brace, which knocked the wind out of the visitors. Redhouse persisted, and kept possession at times, but the defence stood firm with Keeper Tom North standing tall between the sticks to keep the score at 5-4.

Substitute Harry Drewitt entered the frame and despite having an early chance ruled out for being offside, he did find the next just before the full time whistle.

A good shout must be said for the Redhouse keeper at keeping it highly contested as had it not been for him, it could have been double figures for Bishops in the end.

The orange and black side, did not make life easy for themselves, but showed an epic amount of resilience and determination to fight back. First team manager Kieren Chivers said after the game: 'the team showed unreal character, it takes a special team to come back from 3nil down and win'.

After not quite the start Cannings had hoped to have to this years league competition, this win sees them grab points, and are lifted out of the bottom three. Bishops host Faringdon Town Development at Green Lane, who had five past them on the first day of the season away to Stratton. Faringdon have only played the one game so far, as their second fixture away to Marlborough was postponed.

Bishops look to capitalise on the home advantage on the 16th and push on.
