EPISODE 38 — NAPATA: THE SACRED HEART OF KUSH 🇸🇩👑
Before Kush*te kings ruled Egypt as pharaohs, Napata emerged as one of the most important centres of Kush*te royal and religious power in ancient Nubia, in present-day Sudan.
Near the sacred mountain of Gebel Barkal, Kush*te rulers built temples and strengthened a tradition of kingship closely connected with the worship of Amun.
From this Nubian heartland rose rulers including King Piye, whose expansion into Egypt helped establish the Twenty Fifth Dynastya period when Kush*te kings ruled Egypt as pharaohs.
Napata reminds us that the history of the Nile was never Egypt's story alone. Nubia was a major centre of African civilisation, political power and culture in its own right.
