EPISODE 38 — NAPATA: THE SACRED HEART OF KUSH 🇸🇩👑

Before Kush*te kings ruled Egypt as pharaohs, Napata emerged as one of the most important centres of Kush*te royal and religious power in ancient Nubia, in present-day Sudan.

Near the sacred mountain of Gebel Barkal, Kush*te rulers built temples and strengthened a tradition of kingship closely connected with the worship of Amun.

From this Nubian heartland rose rulers including King Piye, whose expansion into Egypt helped establish the Twenty Fifth Dynastya period when Kush*te kings ruled Egypt as pharaohs.

Napata reminds us that the history of the Nile was never Egypt's story alone. Nubia was a major centre of African civilisation, political power and culture in its own right.

🇧🇫 BURKINA FASO: MAJOR INVESTMENT IN HEALTH & EDUCATION

Burkina Faso has signed an agreement with Coris Bank International to mobilise up to 400 billion CFA francs in financing for 4 regional university hospitals and 27 educational establishments.

This is not money already fully disbursed, but a financing commitment toward major national development projects.

Africa’s progress will ultimately be measured by what we build hospitals, schools, industries and opportunities for the next generation.

Could African financed development become the key to greater economic independence across the continent?

🇲🇱 THE PEOPLE WHO SECRETLY SAVED 300,000 AFRICAN MANUSCRIPTS

When armed groups occupied Timbuktu in 2012, centuries of African written heritage were suddenly at risk.

Timbuktu's historic manuscripts contain writings on mathematics, medicine, astronomy, literature, poetry, music, religion, architecture and more. Some date back to the 13th century.

Then ordinary Malians did something remarkable.

Local communities secretly transferred more than 300,000 manuscripts to Bamako for safekeeping, according to UNESCO.

The rescue wasn't complete. UNESCO estimated that 4,203 manuscripts from the Ahmed Baba Institute were lost, including works that were burned or stolen.

But because people acted, an enormous part of Africa's written intellectual heritage survived.

📜 Sometimes protecting history means risking everything to carry it into the future.

👇🏾 Before tonight, had you ever heard about the Timbuktu manuscript rescue?
