Happy Birthday to Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths
Today, we celebrate the legendary , a true icon in the reggae world. Known as the “Queen of ,” Marcia's journey is a perfect blend of talent, passion, and dedication.

Born in Kingston, , on November 23, 1949, she grew up surrounded by music. Her powerful voice was noticed early, and by the 1960s, she had already stepped into the spotlight. Her big break came with hits like “Feel Like Jumping” in 1968, marking the start of an incredible career.
Marcia’s partnership with in the early ‘70s brought us classics like “Young, Gifted and Black,” which became a global anthem for Black empowerment. The duo's success helped bring Jamaican music to the world stage.
In 1974, she joined the legendary I-Threes with and , providing unforgettable backing vocals for and the Wailers. Together, they helped elevate reggae to international fame.
Marcia also built an impressive solo career, with standout tracks like “Electric Boogie,” which inspired the famous Electric Slide dance. Over the years, she collaborated with legends such as and , keeping reggae vibrant and fresh.
Honored with numerous awards, including Jamaica’s Order of Distinction, Marcia remains one of reggae’s most influential figures. She’s still performing and inspiring new generations.
