Two flatmates sharing their love of food

📍 格大小酒馆Sound Bite Bar&Restaurant, second floor, queen Margaret union, 22 university gardens, Glasgow G12 8QN. Loved this hidden gem tucked away in the union. Food was authentic and affordable, one of our new fave spots. They can also accommodate for vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free.

Ad-Invite

On Wednesday we went to for their launch event. It’s a new restaurant on King Street that’s opening soon.

I have to be honest and constructive and say that whilst the food here was flavourful, the service was very slow. We get that this was teething problems and will be sorted with staff training. But we waited a long time for each course and had to remind the staff we hadn’t been served yet twice as everyone else around us had been served. People at the tables around us had been served, eaten and had their table cleared in the time it took our food to arrive. It was a set menu everyone got the same. We arrived at 6 and didn’t get our mains until 9pm.

We also had to ask multiple times for our drinks orders to be fulfilled and had half drunk drinks cleared from our table. The food was nice flavour wise, but often cold, probably as a result of the wait.

I’m not saying this to deliberately try and trash the restaurant as I know that it can take a while to get things running smoothly. But we have also built our following on being honest reviewers, so I have to be realistic about our experience.

I hope that Kinara are able to take this on board and improve the dining experience for their guests.

I’ve been stuck in the flat for the last 10 days getting absolutely wrecked by COVID. I seriously didn’t expect it to hit me this hard and it’s just absolutely floored me.

So throwback to one of the best meals I’ve had in Glasgow this year: my trip to with earlier in the year.

Menu highlights were the pani puri and the butter paneer. My mouth is watering just thinking about it…

Ad-PR Invite

Last week we went to for my second visit to their amazing restaurant. Featuring a selection of classic American diner foods, it’s Glasgow’s best spot for comfort food.

To start off with drinks, I had a banana milkshake and my friend had a mango margarita. Two very different vibes but both were delicious. The milkshakes here are absolutely massive so definitely good bang for your buck.

We both had burgers for mains, myself the chicken burger and my friend the halloumi burger. Again, we both enjoyed our choices. The chicken burger was so decadent and crunchy. Thundercat are owned by the same team behind .bar so you know they’re gonna do a good chicken burger.

On the side we ordered both the salt and chilli tater tots and the garlic and pecorino tater tots (but we asked for these without the pecorino to make them vegetarian). Honestly, wouldn’t write home about the salt and chilli tater tots I thought they were pretty bland. But the garlicy ones? God damn they were incredible. Crunchy and delicious whilst dripping in garlic butter. Garlic girlies have to order these.

Overall, I was happy with our visit and we both really enjoyed the food. I would recommend Thundercat to those looking for some tasty, indulgent food in Glasgow city centre.

NEW MENU ALERT

Recent PR invite to to try their new menu items was an absolute delight.

For starters: Salmon ceviche in a beautiful passion fruit tiger milk. An absolutely exquisite dish. Smoked pork bon bons, extremely rich and melt in the mouth. Halloumi skewers and chicken pastries. Finally scallops on sweet potato puree. Amazingly fresh and tasty.

For mains: pulled pork and beef brisket tacos. These were good but in my opinion not as good as the pork belly and fish/mango tacos they used to do. On the side a corn, potato and cheese gratin and a grilled lettuce and avocado side salad.

Overall, really tasty food in one of Glasgow’s most opulent dining areas. Loved it.

Last noght we were invited to a delicious meal at the Chef’s Table at the Common Club restaurant in Glasgow’s new and were absolutely blow away by how beautiful the hotel is and how fantastic the food was. #

Tomahawk steaks, softshell crav, oysters, desserts, Scottish salmon, the works.

I have been back to several times since going there for a Pr meal over the summer. I had originally went to their Sauchiehall Street location but work down the road from their John Street location, and frankly, the food here never misses. Their chicken shawarma is the best I’ve ever had and makes every single other shawarma restaurant in Glasgow that I have been to pale in comparison, this is my go to treat myself lunch when I’m at work now and it’s a sort of thing that everyone always asks what I’m eating because it smells so good. This place has the Glasgow gannets seal of approval for sure
