It's almost that time again!
The next 145 Alive event will be held on this coming Saturday, 12th April from 1200 until 1500 Local time. We'll be running our net again on 145.375MHz FM from our shack in Cochno, above Clydebank. Feel free to give us a call or stick around for the net!

We've been pretty quiet with events recently... but that time is coming around again shortly, 145 Alive! In just over a weeks time, on Sunday 26th Jan, from 1200-1500 Local time (earlier than previous events), it's the latest instalment of the 145 Alive series of events.

We're hosting a net from our shack near Cochno, and given the temporary setup we'll be using I've created this to get an idea of coverage. Frequency allocations haven't been shared yet but I'll share that as soon as it's confirmed.

We'll hopefully hear as many of you as possible on 2m that afternoon!

On Saturday 27th Jan the 145 Alive event will be taking place once again across the UK, from 1300 until 1500.

This time around we've decided to have a go and host our own net... So as a club we'll be operating a net on 145.325 MHz FM under our callsign GS4AGG. The aim of these nets is to promote activity on the band, and get stations talking, both to ourselves and other stations on frequency.
We intend to operate from our club shack in IO75TW, so should have good coverage across the Greater Glasgow area. We should have a handful of operators from the club running the station across the 2 hours, and probably afterwards too, so give us a call!

30/09/2023

Well we've had a good couple of hours up at the club shack this afternoon operating GS4AGG for the 145 Alive event. 21 calls in the log and we even managed a couple of M0 stations who were operating in the northern part of the Lake District.

It's good to hear so much activity on 2m outside of SSB contests etc, we'll look forward to the next one!

We have a pair of 60ft Versa towers that came from SK estates and are sitting at Alan GM4TOQs place. He would like to get them moved so is offering them for sensible donations to the club.

If anyone is interested either message us and I'll pass on your message to Alan, or contact him directly.

So Tuesday evening turned out to be a good night! We only got 31 contacts in the log, however we weren't operating too seriously, we got GS7WOS on the air and had a BBQ. All in all a successful night.

So we had yet another afternoon of work on the tower over the weekend, this time putting up a 4/6m dual band Yagi, and running the coax into the shack. So now we have capabilities for 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m, 10m, 6m, 4m, 2m, and 70cm(vertical).

Well we had a productive afternoon up at the club shack today... A Diamond V2000 collinear installed to replace the old one, which had issues and was removed some months ago. We also investigated issues with the 144 MHz beam, finding a masthead preamp full of water, and later running a replacement run of coax to it after finding further issues.

All in all a good afternoons work and it's good to get us back on VHF, with the added bonus of 6m on the new collinear!

A brief history of WoSARS:

The West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society was formed in May 1970, as a breakaway from the Radio Club of Scotland (RCS), which was formed roughly 8 years prior.

Initially meeting at the TA Signals Regiment premises on Jardine St, the club has met at various locations around Glasgow over the years, and currently meets on Fridays at 8pm in the Garnethill Multicultural Centre, Rose St.

For more info on the history of the club and notable Scottish amateur radio milestones have a look at this page written by Jack - GM4COX on our website https://wosars.club/wosars-timeline/
