Rising Stars Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 2026 selection!

Every artistic idea begins with an image. Ours began with a circle. ✨

On 1 August, almost 300 people joined Ceilidh Meets Garba, Momentum Films’ official cultural legacy programme within the Glasgow 2026 Festival.

Scotland’s Ceilidh and Gujarat’s Garba began as two distinct traditions. By the end of the evening, live musicians, Garba dancers and the audience had created the final fusion together.

The heart of the programme: to move beyond representation towards participation.

As Glasgow hosted the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Amdavad prepares to host in 2030, Ceilidh Meets Garba opened a living cultural conversation between two Commonwealth cities, celebrating collective movement, shared celebrations and a Scotland continually shaped by everyone who now calls it home.

We were honoured to welcome H.E. Mr P. Kumaran, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom; Simita Kumar MSP, Minister for Equalities and International Development; Alison Thewliss MSP, Minister for Community Care; and Bailie Annette Christie, Convener for Culture, Sport and International Relations at Glasgow City Council.

Our deepest thanks to the Glasgow Ceilidh Band, Garba dancers, members of the Gujarati Society Glasgow, volunteers, partners and every person who stepped into the circle and made the evening what it became.

🎬 CELEBRATING GLASGOW’S SOUTH ASIAN COMMUNITIES 🎬

FIVE COMMUNITY PROJECTS. ONE SHARED SCREEN.

Our final programme announcement celebrates five community-led projects from across Glasgow’s Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Sri Lankan communities—each bringing its own voice, culture and perspective to the screen.

Together, these films reflect the richness and diversity of the many South Asian communities that help shape Glasgow. Through stories of sport, movement, memory, everyday life and belonging, they celebrate the experiences and connections that make the city what it is.

A huge shout-out to the five community organisations behind these projects for sharing their stories with us. Tomorrow, their films will be screened together under one roof alongside some fantastic films by Scotland-based filmmakers as part of Sport, Belonging & Home Screening.

As part of a fantastic collaboration between Momentum Films and GMAC Film, we’re delighted to bring three short films from GMAC Film’s Little Pictures programme to Sport, Belonging and Home Screening for Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 Festival.

Each film brings a distinctive perspective to the screening, exploring sport, movement, resilience, memory and belonging take deeply personal forms—showcasing the voices of some exceptional Scottish filmmakers.

As we count down to Sport, Belonging and Home Screening this Sunday, we’re incredibly delighted to celebrate our partnership with GMAC Film and Little Pictures, whose support has helped us bring together an exciting selection of short films by exceptional Scottish filmmakers.

Together, we have shaped a programme filled with powerful, personal and imaginative stories exploring sport, movement, memory, resilience, everyday life and belonging and created a space for filmmakers and communities from across Glasgow and Scotland to come together under one roof.

We are delighted to announce Scotland’s International Yoga Day by the Scottish Hindu Foundation as the closing film of our Sport, Belonging & Home short-films screening.

A celebration of movement, mindfulness, and community, the film captures how Scotland’s International Yoga Day brought people of different cultures, communities and generations together through the shared experience of yoga.

It is a joyful reflection on wellbeing, collective participation and the spirit of community surrounding the Glasgow 2026 Festival.

Join us as we close the screening with this uplifting celebration of connection and belonging.

Official Opening Film “STROKE OF LUCK”

We’re delighted to announce that our opening film for Sport, Belonging & Home Screening is Stroke of Luck, directed by Jordan Kelly-Linden.

After making it to BAFTA Student Awards Longlist, this powerful short documentary tells the deeply human story of Andy Dobinson, a 42-year-old sales manager whose life changed in an instant after suffering a catastrophic stroke while working from home.

Stroke of Luck is not just a story about recovery. It is about love, resilience, family, and the courage it takes to find your way back when life changes without warning.
Through Andy and his wife Nicola’s journey, Jordan Kelly-Linden creates an honest and moving portrait of what it means to heal physically, emotionally, and together.

Jordan’s own connection to stroke inspired the film. After losing both of her paternal grandparents to stroke, it was another survivor, her best friend’s dad Colin, who encouraged her to tell this stereotype-defying story.

Join us this Sunday, 26 July, at The Pyramid at Anderston (Lower Hall) as we begin our screening with this beautiful and unforgettable film.
