Linzi Seivwright is a familiar face to many in the world of deer in Scotland and this conversation gives us the opportunity to hear the stories, experiences and people that have shaped her fascinating career.

Growing up in the Angus Glens with a stalker for a dad and surrounded by deer, wildlife and a close rural community, Linzi shares how those early experiences sparked her curiosity about the natural world and ultimately led her into a career in ecology and deer management.

From initially studying economics at St Andrews to discovering a prospectus for an MSc in Ecology almost by chance, Linzi reflects on the twists and turns that have shaped her career. We hear about her time working with the Deer Commission, developing the Wild Deer Best Practice guidance and the challenge of building bridges with a sector that was initially deeply sceptical of government intervention. We also hear about the opportunities that took Linzi further afield, including a Churchill Fellowship that broadened her horizons and introduced her to people who continue to inspire her today.

Linzi shares her passion for venison and the work she is doing to make it more accessible and familiar to communities, including through education and the Hill to Grill project. We talk about reconnecting people with where their food comes from, the importance of demonstrating the versatility of venison and the opportunities that exist to bring rural businesses, communities and young people together.

This episode is full of passion, perspective and inspiration, with a reminder that sometimes the opportunities that change our lives come from the most unexpected conversations. As Linzi says, follow what puts fire in your belly and be willing to take the opportunities that come your way.

✨🎤 **GWCT Scottish Game Fair 2026: Commentator** 🎤✨

What a fantastic weekend back on the mic at the GWCT Scottish Game Fair! From the main arena to the surrounding showground, it was another brilliant few days packed with sunshine, showers, huge crowds, plenty of laughs… and I even got to hold an owl! 🦉

From the wonderfully organised chaos of the terrier racing to the majestic hill ponies, falconry displays, rare dog breeds and everything in between, the programme truly had something for everyone.

Live commentary is a completely different challenge to podcasting - thinking on your feet, reacting in the moment, and keeping the energy going, but I absolutely loved every second. Here’s to plenty more of it in the future!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the commentary box, sent lovely messages, or came over to say hello. You really made my weekend. 🥰 And to everyone I didn’t manage to catch up with around the showground, I’m sorry we missed each other!

✨Seeing is believing ✨

One of the key drivers behind the Women in Wellies Podcast is to showcase female role models across rural Scotland to help the next generation see someone they can relate to doing the thing, having the career or demonstrating a path they’d love to follow.

Debbie MacKay joined us on Episode 64 and did exactly this! Throughout the conversation we saw time and again how relatable Debbie’s story is right through to becoming a partner and the position she now holds. When Debbie became a partner she was the only female one and through that she has trail blazed a path for women to follow in her footsteps!

✨Royal Highland Show 2026 ✨

An absolute whirlwind of a day on Thursday from the Women in Agriculture Scotland breakfast (inspiring as always) to Scottish Land & Estates (lovely to catch up with so many familiar faces) and then on to Owen Farm Services for the Scottish Women in Dairy Network reception (incredible to hear from Sophie Jackson about her journey to the Olympics) and rounding at the day with Savills Rural!

A brilliant day despite the rain and glad Margi Campbell and I captured our traditional selfie 🤳

Note to self : 1 day is definitely not enough RHS! Apologies to everyone I missed seeing and catching up with, it’s already in the diary for 3 days in 2027 💚💛
