The Moderator has issued a statement from the Church on the bombing of Al Ahli Hospital and a prayer for all nations to live in peace. Rt Rev Dr Shaw Paterson says:

As we walk the way of Holy Week I have been reflecting deeply upon the world that is riven with war and most especially on the war in Israel and Gaza.

The Church of Scotland is appalled at the targeted bombing of Al Ahli Hospital, one of the only remaining hospitals in Gaza, on the first morning of Holy Week.

The institution, which is run by the Anglican Church in Jerusalem, with whom the Church of Scotland partners, has been severely damaged, and in the process of evacuation one child tragically died.

The Church of Scotland has supported Al Ahli hospital with funds over many years, and our Mission partners and staff have visited often to see the lifesaving work that takes place, often in incredibly difficult situations. This year the hospital will be the recipient of funds from the Church’s stamp appeal.

The Church stands alongside the Diocese of Jerusalem in condemning the attack, and in their words ‘call upon all governments and people of goodwill to intervene to stop all kinds of attacks on medical and humanitarian institutions.’ We also echo their call to ‘pray and call for the end of this horrific war and the suffering of so many.’

A prayer…

Lord God,
As we journey through Holy Week, we do so while journeying with our sisters and brothers who are living with the horrors of war and conflict. We remember all those who continue to suffer in Gaza and, this week in particular, especially those affected by the bombing of the Al Ahli Hospital.

We call upon governments and all political leaders to work for a path to lasting peace while ensuring medical and humanitarian aid is a priority, and made available to all in need.

As we prepare our hearts and minds for Easter and the hope that the resurrection brings to our troubled world, we pray that this hope becomes a reality for those of all faiths, and none, for hostages and all those suffering and mourning, and that the words of Isaiah become a reality; that swords will be beaten into ploughshares, spears into pruning hooks and that nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

In the Name of Jesus Christ we pray; Amen.

Personal Thank you!

Whilst on Annual Leave last week the Minister launched a personal fundraiser to purchase a powered wheelchair and install access ramps for his daughter Helen.

He set a target which would go a long way to covering the cost of the chair, and any excess would be put towards the ramps.

He also started the process of applying for grants as the ramping is expensive.
Even before inviting the congregation to consider supporting this, there has been wonderful generosity and support and the cost of the chair is now covered.

All and any further donations will be helping towards the cost of the ramps, which will be several thousand pounds.

Anyone willing to consider donating is invited to view the

JustGiving page or speak to David direct.

Thankyou.

More details can be found on the Justgiving page :

Iʼm raising money to help buy a powered wheelchair + ramp. THANKS to YOU a wheelchair can soon be bought and the excess can be put towards a ramp.THANKYOU!. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.
