People with hearing loss are likely to be at their most vulnerable at night. Many people remove hearing aids to sleep, meaning that they would struggle to hear even loud alarms alerting them to smoke or fire.

The Bellman & Symfon United Kingdom Visit Fire Safety Bundle combines several helpful features: smoke detector, alarm clock and bed shaker, that will provide an all-round system that’s reliable and easy to set up.

Hoe Grange Holidays has launched a £5,000 fundraising campaign to repair its off-road wheelchair, which has helped hundreds of disabled visitors and local families explore the countryside.

“The Boma isn’t a luxury,” says owner David Brown. “It’s the key to independence, adventure and joy. It’s allowed people to join family and friends in the hills, along the trails, and even on hacks with horses. It’s about being part of the same adventures, together.”

But with such a high cost to repair, and no grant funds available for fixing existing equipment, the Browns are now asking for your help.

You can donate via the Crowdfunding campaign link: https://gofund.me/9b746a35

“There’s no feeling quite like the freedom of being independent in such a rugged environment that’s usually off-limits.” 🏞️

For over 13 years, our Boma7 off-road wheelchair has helped guests and local families explore hills, trails and woodlands. But now the electrics are failing and we face having to take it out of service.

It’s not just a bit of kit. It’s a key to independence, adventure and joy. It’s helped people go hacking with horses, join family walks, and explore the Peak District on their own terms.

The fix isn’t simple – but it is possible.

To replace the electrical system and get the Boma back on the trails, it’ll cost nearly £10,000. We’ve scraped together half – but we need your help to raise the rest. We’ve never made a profit from hiring out the Boma, and we never will. But we’re passionate about supporting as many people as possible to get out and enjoy the countryside together.

A donation, no matter how many small, makes a real difference. If now is not the right time, a share on your socials or a quick message to a friend helps more than you know. Together, we can get the Boma rolling again! 🙏

This is Our Story

Able Magazine is the UK’s favourite disability lifestyle publication with 25 years experience writing about the things that matter to disabled people.

Our positive, insightful, specialist-written editorial covers the entire disability spectrum: news, travel, leisure, research and the latest products as well as sports, activities and competitions, offering advice and inspiration to our readers.

Everything we do is about ‘what disabled people can do, not what they can’t.’

We go the extra mile to bring you the very best content. Whether it’s examining the accessibility of Brazil, reviewing a brand new WAV or doing in-depth pieces on living with chronic pain, you’ll find it all in Able Magazine every second month.
