We are thrilled that 'The Boy and the Suit of Lights' by Inma De Reyes has been chosen as the opening film for the Filmhouse's DocScreen! It's truly exciting to see the Filmhouse doors reopen, celebrating independent cinema and bringing renewed hope to our local film community.

The DocScreen initiative is a wonderful partnership between the Filmhouse and the Scottish Documentary Institute, dedicated to showcasing the finest independent documentaries on the big screen.

Join us next Saturday, 12th July, at 6 PM in Screen 1 at the Filmhouse to enjoy this special screening and appreciate the craft of independent documentary filmmaking. A Q&A with director Inma De Reyes will take place after the screening.

Aconite is very proud to be one of the UK companies supported by the UK Global Screen Fund international co-production strand. Our project 'The Mad World of Harvey Kurtzman' directed by Bart Simpson is a co-production with Canadian company Intuitive Pictures. It tells the untold story of cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman, the artist behind MAD magazine. The film delves into the world of comic books, pop culture and the birth of modern satire. T​his comprehensive and holistic program​me provides ​a​n invaluable space for female producers to connect, share experiences, feel empowered, and learn within a supportive environment.

An unforgettable afternoon at The Garden Cinema!🤩 We recently had the absolute honour of spending time with the legendary Terry Gilliam. Our Producer, Aimara Reques, recalls the profound impact of 'Brazil' in the 80s when she was a student in Caracas. Meeting Terry in person was truly special! Huge thanks to him for his generosity and laughter! 😄👏❤️

This special moment comes amidst our exciting work on "The MAD World Of Harvey Kurtzman”- a collaboration with director Bart Simpson and producer Ina Fichman of Intuitive Pictures. We're immensely grateful to our talented crew for their dedication and hard work. We can't wait to share this project with you!

The start of the year has flown by, and it's fantastic to end January 2025 with exciting news for The Boy And The Suit Of Lights.

The film is being screened in competitions at two festivals in the next few days: the Budapest International Documentary Festival and the Belgrade Documentary Film Festival DOK #7.

Crafting films of global significance for international distribution

Dear friends,

In tune with the vibrant colours of the season, we wish to share the below image and take a moment to reflect on it. We think it's profoundly revealing. Both structures, apparently different but in reality almost identical. The key difference between the molecular structure of chlorophyll and hemoglobin lies in their metal components. Plant blood contains a molecule of magnesium (Mg), while human blood has a molecule of iron (Fe). And cosmologists tell us that in the beginning everything was formed from exploding stars. So, the next time you look at plants, think about how close our blood is to the blood of our green friends!

As this is a time to celebrate, to share and to appreciate life, we hope the image is a reminder of how we are all simply made of the same stuff and connected to each other, to nature and to the entire planet, regardless of how different we may think we are.

Thank you to all our friends, followers, colleagues and our wonderful filmmaking tribe for sharing another inspiring and equally challenging year. We are humbled and honoured to be part of such a vibrant and passionate international documentary community. Together, we have pushed boundaries and told powerful stories. Here's to a bright 2025 filled with creativity, collaboration, and countless inspiring documentaries.

The Aconite office will be closed for the holiday season between December 23 and January 6.
