Originally a vinyl-only LP, Music For The Contrarian was one of the first real statements from Modat & Johnny Johnny Records, built on groove, restraint and a DJ-first mindset. No trend chasing, just raw, stripped-back house and deeper, dubby textures made for long blends and late nights.

When it first dropped, the LP broke into the Top 100 overall and hit #22 in the exclusives chart, way beyond what we expected for such an understated project.

Now, over four years later, Music For The Contrarian is finally getting a full digital release. The Bandcamp edition also includes a previously unreleased bonus track, a hip-hop inspired experiment made during a moment of creative exploration.

A proper snapshot of the early Johnny Johnny Records sound, understated, off-centre and built for the dancefloor.

After some time away, we’re stepping back into 2026 with a clear head and renewed energy. This one is about getting back to the basics and remembering why we started in the first place. Bringing people together over music we love. 🥰

Johnny Johnny Records returns with a day and night built around connection, atmosphere, and a proper dance floor.

Kicking things off the right way with a pre party at .arly curated by , setting the mood before we move on to the main chapter.
Later, we head to @1990.gla , where two spinners who need no introduction and will be waiting to take over the basement all night long. No pressure, no filler, just music flowing the way it should.

Entry is free, by design.
Keeping things open and accessible matters for us all, this is simply about sharing an experience with good people and great music.

Just one more sleep until lands in Glasgow and I’m oscillating wildly between excitement and mild existential panic. 😱 😅

This is without a doubt one of the biggest nights we’ve ever put on. A genuine icon, someone we’ve admired for years… Now she’s coming to play our wee party. No danger! 😮‍💨
We’ve been rampant all week prepping music, checking lists, re-checking lists, re-questioning life choices, all the usual pre event chaos. Promoting isn’t exactly a spa retreat for the mind, but we do it because we love this stuff. 😬☺️

Very ready to see everyone tomorrow and hope everything clicks into place. If not. Least the tunes will be good.

Our very own is back on Bloop London Radio tonight for the final instalment of his our residency.

Amidst all the madness in the lead-up to our huge party with Magda at next month, hes found time to get back in the studio to putting together this mix and work on a load of new material for the label (something we know hes been keeping a little quiet about lately... But it’s gonna be worth the wait).

Expect the signature minimal, groovy flavours plus a few of Modats own records for good measure this time! 👀 (a rare treat, since they don’t tend to play out their own tracks often enough).

This one also marks the final Bloop show for now, making it a special and slightly emotional moment. 😩We’re incredibly proud to have represented the label on such a respected platform and share music from so many of the artists we love.

Big love to the Bloop team for all the support during our stay 💙
