Rangers have sacked Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart after a disastrous start to the season at Ibrox 🚨

Sporting director Thelwell only arrived from Everton in the summer but failed to impress, identifying Russell Martin as manager and overseeing a miserable summer transfer window.

Stewart was handed the chief executive role under the old regime at Ibrox and was kept on board by the new American owners.

But Rangers chairman Andrew Cavanagh has finally lost patience with the pair amid angry fan protests. Director Fraser Thornton will take on the tole of acting CEO while Cavanagh and his deputy Paraag Marathe search for replacements.

Martin, who was repeatedly backed by both Thelwell and Stewart, guided Rangers to one of their worst league starts in decades, winning just one of seven league games.

He was sacked after just 122 days in charge and replaced by German Danny Rohl, who has helped improve domestic results, but performances have remained lacklustre.

A campaigning widow whose husband's death is being examined by a public inquiry has said Nicola Sturgeon attempted to "implicate" him in her deadly Covid errors 🤔

Louise Slorance hit out on social media following the publication of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry's damning report into "core decision-making and political governance".

Her husband, Andrew, was the head of the SNP government's response and communication unit, overseeing the civil service response to the pandemic. A superb organiser, he was appointed Scottish Government Resilience Room (SGORR) Covid-19 lead officer at the outset of the crisis.

After being diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma, he was admitted to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in October 2020 for stem cell transplant and chemotherapy. He died there, aged 49, with the cause of death being given as "Covid pneumonia".

However, when Mrs Slorance requested her husband's notes, she learned he was also being treated for an undisclosed fungus called aspergillus. She has accused the health board and the government of a "cover-up" and has given evidence to the inquiry into infection deaths at QEUH.

Now she has said the former first minister – who described Mr Slorance as a "wonderful person" and a "crucial" colleague during the early weeks of pandemic – of attempting to chuck him under the bus.
