Bringing Scotland’s history to new audiences through an engaging, digital format was such a rewarding project for our team! From building an immersive world to writing scripts that weave through interactive tasks, this process has resulted in an unforgettable experience for those who have the chance to try it.

We always love working with The Whithorn Trust - if you stop by their museum, be sure to check it out.

🌿 Enjoy this clip from the Dandelion launch film – the latest addition to our archive.

Dandelion is a national project from 2022, encouraging Scotland to sow, grow, and share together. The project aimed to re-establish harvest in the calendar and bring together sustainability, creativity, and community with events held across the country.

For this event, Urbancroft Films was tasked with a large-scale, complex production developed in partnership with internationally renowned Director, Producer, and Curator Angus Farquhar from Aproxima Arts.

This clip is from the launch video, which follows Dandelion’s Cubes of Perpetual Light – or mini vertical farms – around Scotland to promote gathering and growing. The project included construction of an electric bike, which was taken to both rural and urban locations, transporting the growing cubes. It also incorporated both ground and aerial filming and the chartering a boat to take the crew to uninhabited island, Heisgeir, where we filmed with crofter and composer Pàdruig Morrison on his ancestral land. The final film featured CGI animation to help to bring these cubes to life.

The launch video not only explains the aim of the programme, but it captures the sense of community and coming together that was central to the Dandelion project. On top of this, we created a number of other film assets for not only the launch event itself, but capturing the harvest festivals and celebrations that culminated the project.

🎞️ Ready for another clip from our archive?

Tap o’ the Toon Tales is an oral history project aiming to create an understanding of past memories from the residents from the south end of Whithorn, both today and through the 1950s – 1970s social housing schemes.

This community project acts as a time-capsule documentary, full of interviews and archive materials. While filming this, we worked alongside a group of young people with Whithorn Youth Group, teaching them documentary techniques, such as interviewing and directing.

By editing still images and old archive footage, alongside a voice over, we were able to create an understanding of the memories shared by residents and an accessible form of telling these stories.
