A Renfrewshire grandpa, who was unable to kiss his beloved wife for years due to his nose continuously growing, has undergone an astonishing transformation ❤️‍🩹

Gerard McAliece was suffering from one of the worst cases of Rhinophyma, a disfiguring condition which causes the nose to swell and grow, that his medics had ever seen. The tissue on the 68-year-old's nose had expanded to the point that it was hanging over his mouth, and covering a large portion of his face.

He said: “It just kept growing and growing and, as much as possible, I tried to ignore it. People began to stare and some would turn away, but my view was: this is me. Take me as I am."

Lanarkshire man Mark Sommerville, who was diagnosed with the incurable disease two years ago, has accused MND Scotland of letting down sufferers 💔

The dad of four said: “The only people that are going to lose out here are people dying with a horrible disease. I might be dead in six months."
