José Mauro 1948-2024 RIP
~ creator of the two very special
& magical albums 'Obnoxius' ,
& 'A Viagem Das Horas' 🌅🙏x

Listening back to these recording sessions from the just departed Jose Mauro…. This music filtered its way through to a few DJs back when Joe Davis of would travel regularly to Brazil in the late eighties —— Beyond the heavy trio jazz and hard sambas, Joe was going way beyond Milton and the Minas Gerais crowd —- somewhere between tropicalia , soundtracks, free jazz and Nick Drake… beyond Verocai even… Jose Mauro recorded these albums in one session in 1970… he was joined in the studio by Ivan Conti, Dom Salvador, Paulo Moura and Wilson Das Neves, lyrics were written with close friend Ana Maria Bahiana , orchestrated by Lindolfo Gaya- and with the great Roberto Quartin producing… wow!
‘Obnoxius’ is an all time classic which is up there with Verocai’s self titled debut which came out a full 2 years later… it was sad hearing that Jose, similarly to Terry Callier, called it a day disillusioned by the music industry and instead lived a life teaching guitar and directing theatre… if only he’d kept recording.
At least he left this for the world to enjoy forever.
