Whether you’re in the early stages of your career and looking to secure your first role, or you’ve already gained a few credits and you’re refining your professional skills – we're here to help you with an honest overview and practical support.

Kit Start 2026, a paid three-day work experience programme created by Our House Pictures and the Mark Milsome Foundation to open doors for emerging talent in the film and TV camera departments, has officially launched!

The initiative is designed to give aspiring filmmakers — particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds — the chance to gain practical experience and build valuable industry connections.

Screen Scotland will be providing additional funding for the programme this year, enabling Kit Start expand into Scotland and offer paid placements to applicants based there, alongside those in London. 👏

Joining last year’s collaborator Panavision, there is new support from No Drama Ltd and Progressive Broadcast Hire, who will be providing the opportunities in Scotland for 2026.

is a paid work experience programme for those over 18 with a strong desire to work in the camera department. It was created to and support those who may not normally have access to opportunities in the film and TV industry.

Successful applicants will be placed with partnering rental houses for three days of paid work experience, complete our H&S course and access a range of other exciting opportunities.

Applications opened in early November with placements taking place in February and March.

We are so sorry to hear the sad news about Paddy Higson passing away but grateful to have had such an incredible person giving so much and supporting the Scottish film and television industry for so long.
Our thoughts are with her family and close friends at this hard time ❤️

The “mother of the Scottish film industry” played a key role in hits such as Gregory’s Girl, Taggart and Monarch of the Glen before dedicating herself to mentoring through Glasgow’s GMAC Film.
