The most comprehensively updated list of summer festivals in the UK (1989-1999) Also producer of the Ambient Lounge (24 hour performance tent that toured festivals nationwide), the Ambient Green Picnic/Festival (for it's first 3 years) & other events. GuilFin was a monthly publication (based in Guildford) that listed hundreds of gigs, clubs, parties, protests and other gatherings in the south-east
and beyond. Each year, it produced the most comprehensively updated list of summer festivals in the UK. This included free festivals such as Torpedo Town and more commercial events like Reading. GuilFin also toured the renowned Ambient Lounge, a 24-hour performance and campaign venue to dozens of festivals across the land. It was all pulled together by Thayen and Liam Rich and Alan Chapman. There were also many others who made the various GuilFin projects a success. Thayen was responsible for the GuilFin graphics and is still making art. His work can be found at on Facebook - on Instagram - and his website is https://www.corrosive8.co.uk/
Liam pulled things together, compiled the listings and dealt with printers and distributors each month plus he produced the Ambient Lounge that toured UK festivals and co-produced the Ambient Green Picnic/Festival. He's still an event producer and can be contacted his website at http://www.richcreate.co.uk/
Alan did the music reviews and was GuilFin's main spokesperson and networker. Sadly he is no longer alive - but of course his spirit lives on in all who knew him. We had reunion gathering that took place in 2021 on Millmead Island, Guildford - and it was a lovely success! It was a "Bring What You Expect To Find" event as a nod to the DIY culture of the past... and also the Ambient Green Picnic festivals we did as part of the Coalition in the 90s. That event acted as a catalyst for lots of events, festivals and cultural projects that followed… Watch this space for future projects. GuilFin may live on albeit in another life form… And shall we gather at again in September 2022?
