💭Why normal nail polish instead of gel polish on toenails?

✨Some of you may have heard me recommend gel polish for toenails when you’re going on holiday or when you’ll be wearing open shoes for an extended period, such as during the summer.

☝️The reason is that, during those times, your feet are well ventilated and less exposed to the constant pressure and moisture that come with closed shoes. However, when your feet are kept in closed, tight-fitting shoes for long periods, they tend to sweat more, creating an environment that encourages fungal and bacterial infections.

🦶Toenails are different from fingernails. They are constantly under pressure inside shoes, so it’s important for them to maintain their natural flexibility. When the coating is too rigid, the nail cannot bend naturally under pressure. In some cases, this can lead to trauma or even cause the nail to separate from the nail bed. Once a gap forms, the risk of developing an infection increases significantly.

👍For this reason, many medical pedicure specialists recommend either leaving toenails natural or using normal nail polish instead of gel polish for everyday wear.

☺️The good news is that normal nail polish often lasts surprisingly well on toenails—much longer than it does on fingernails.

❗️It’s also important to check your toenails regularly. If a problem is spotted early, it’s usually much easier to treat. But if it remains hidden under gel polish for months, treatment can sometimes take years.
