11 years ago today 🤍

Thursday 20th August 2015 was the day I had an open nephrectomy for kidney cancer, leaving me with a huge scar, physically and mentally. I’ve always thought of 20th August as the day I became cancer free, and every year it’s a date that makes me stop and reflect on just how precious life is.

Fast forward 11 years and here I am, putting myself out there, stepping outside my comfort zone and trying something completely different by modelling.

This photo was taken at the Working With Models Day at Pretty in Pixels Studio a few weeks ago and I think it captures exactly how I feel about this chapter of my life, happy, confident and enjoying myself.

Life really is for living, loving and making the most of every opportunity. And that’s exactly what I intend to keep doing. 🤍

I’m 55, still learning, still challenging myself and definitely not ready to sit back just yet!

A little vintage glamour at the Nikon camera event 🤎📸

Loved being part of this event and having the opportunity to be photographed in this gorgeous setting.

The polka dots, vintage chairs and a few different poses made for some really fun images. It’s interesting seeing how different photographers capture the same model.

A few from Nikon Camera Event at Pretty in Pixels Studio 📸

What a brilliant day! It was great to spend the day surrounded by photographers, trying out different Nikon cameras and lenses, experimenting with lighting and seeing how each photographer brought their own style to the shoot.

I was a little nervous about modelling alongside another model, but I really didn’t need to be. Everyone was so lovely and made it such an enjoyable day.

These were taken by Dave Baines 📸 Thank you Dave, I love these!

It was lovely meeting and working with everyone. Hopefully our paths cross again at another shoot! 😊

A little behind the scenes from yesterday’s photoshoot 📸✨

Such a great team to work with — professional, creative and so much fun! 🤍

Lots of laughs, lots of cameras and a little bit of acting thrown in for good measure! 😂📸

Can’t wait to see the finished results! 🤍

Shrek vibes… but make it fitness. 💚😂

Early morning. No makeup. Hair doing its own thing. Looking more Shrek than supermodel… 🤣💚

Still showed up, still smiled, still got the workout done. That’s what counts. 💪💚

Pablo’s first swimming session… and I think we’ve found his new favourite place! 🐶💦

Watching his confidence grow with every paddle was so lovely to see. 🤍

A huge thank you to Connor at Iconic Boarding Kennels for looking after him and making his first swim such a positive experience.

Would your dog enjoy swimming? 🐾

Making memories in the Big Apple! 🍎💙💛

Ahead of today’s match against Sunderland, Mollie and her friends had the chance to meet Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe in the Legends Bar.

Pictured with Lucas are Mollie, her university friend Nat, Ben (who we’ve become great friends with after sitting next to us at Elland Road), and Jamie… Mollie’s future brother-in-law! 🤣

They’ve travelled together to follow Leeds in New York and Chicago, and it looks like they’re making memories they’ll never forget.

What a fantastic weekend at Beamish! ❤️

This was our Christmas present from our daughter, who was so organised she bought us an unlimited annual pass in advance. The only thing I’d suggest Beamish considers is starting the 12-month validity from the first visit, rather than from the date of purchase. When passes are bought as gifts, a few weeks (or even months) can be lost before they’re ever used. It would make a lovely gift even better. 💛

Everyone says you need two days at Beamish Museum, and now I completely understand why. We travelled on every bus and every train, wandered through the different eras, explored the farms, cottages and streets, and really tried to take in every part of this incredible place.

Gary was determined to experience absolutely everything, while I would happily have walked even more! He even ventured down into the mine. I, on the other hand, managed about five metres before my fear of confined spaces got the better of me. I’d convinced myself I’d overcome it… apparently not! 😅

One of the highlights had to be the traditional fish and chips from Davy’s Fish & Chip Shop. Cooked the old-fashioned way using coal-fired ranges, they were every bit as good as everyone says they are. Absolutely delicious! 😍

More than anything, I came away wondering one thing… why have I never been here before? It’s such an incredible place, full of history, nostalgia and people who clearly love bringing the past to life.

We’ll definitely be back before our pass runs out!

🇨🇳 Final Part | Until Next Time, China 🇨🇳

Every adventure has to come to an end, and before heading home, we enjoyed one last evening together as a group.

Mercury Holidays had arranged a lovely farewell banquet, complete with the famous Peking duck, carved at the table.

Jonathan had one final surprise too. He’d found out it was Rachel’s birthday and, as always, appeared with a beautiful cake. Just another example of how thoughtful he was throughout the trip.

The next morning we had a little free time, so Gary, Sonija and I visited Silk Street Market. Even then, Jonathan made sure we were looked after, writing our return instructions in Mandarin so we could get back safely.

Saying goodbye to Jonathan at Beijing Airport wasn’t easy. It really reminded us that our adventure was coming to an end. I think he’d enjoyed our company just as much as we’d enjoyed his. Ten strangers had shared laughter, unforgettable experiences and memories we’ll never forget.

Mercury Holidays, a huge thank you to Jonathan. His kindness, humour and genuine care made this holiday truly special. He didn’t just show us China, he helped us experience it.

This Wonders of China tour was with Mercury Holidays booked through GoCruise & Travel with Rich and Yvonne Goole. Thank you both for making it all possible. 🇨🇳❤️

Thank you to everyone who has followed my Wonders of China travel diary. I hope you’ve enjoyed sharing this incredible journey with us ❤️
I know some will be glad it’s finished too 🤣🤣🤣
