🚨 A sandwich made by a Newcastle-based food company allegedly ended up on sale at a petrol station containing a piece of glass, a court has heard.
Alan George Porthouse and John Joseph Robson were running Seasons, a business based at Foundry Lane Industrial Estate in Ouseburn, when the incident is said to have taken place.
It’s claimed that a coronation chicken sandwich produced by the firm was sold at an Esso garage on Stockton Road near Darlington on January 27 this year.
Porthouse, of Cole Gardens in Wardley, Gateshead, and Robson, of Lawson Close in Byker, were both charged with selling food not of the nature, substance, or quality demanded by the purchaser — a charge they both denied during an earlier hearing at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
They also face three further charges of breaching EU food safety and hygiene regulations, along with one count each of failing to comply with a food safety improvement notice.
