National Fostering Agency

National Fostering Agency Getting it right in Scotland
We are committed to improving outcomes for Scotland’s Children. Our agency covers the whole of Scotland, including the Highlands.

We work with more than 130 foster parents and 200 children. We started as a small agency with around 40 carers and have since grown to become a large agency with 138 foster parents, but we have succeeded in retaining our local identity and feel. We’ve been finding loving foster carers to improve Scottish children’s lives for decades. We work hard to build good relationships with local authorities

across Scotland as well as local groups like the Scottish Through Care and After Care Forum. Our aim is to equip foster carers with the skills and support they need to ensure the best possible outcomes for foster children and young people and we’re keen to celebrate all the successes of our children. The team at NFA Scotland is committed to ensuring that foster carers feel supported and listened to. Someone is available to respond to issues at all times of the day and night and, wherever possible, the same person will see things through from start to finish to provide consistency and continuity. NFA Scotland manages its business according to local need and demand, but with the backing of a large national agency (National Fostering Group) behind it. This allows us to tap into a central pool of expert support and expertise, while maintaining an awareness of what our children, foster parents and local authorities need. We pride ourselves on providing a very high standard of care for some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children and young people. We achieve this by retaining and investing in our staff and foster carers, ensuring our matching process is effective, and working hard to give our foster children the same opportunities to achieve as any other young person.

Our foster carers are as diverse as the children they look after. For those fostering children with disabilities, we’re there to support you every step of the way with specialised training.

However, we also trust our carers to get to know their foster child and use their own instinct. And sometimes they learn that it’s the most unexpected things that help, like the Peppa Pig soundtrack 🐷💖

Heath Farm Fostering Agency prides itself on being a therapeutic agency. We have carers living in Kent, Essex and London. For a well-being treat we took our lovely carers to in Spitalfields to enjoy a painting and pizza workshop. Rosalyn (our art teacher) taught us how to paint a vase of flowers but as you can see some of our carers created their own freestyle masterpiece. Such talent!! 🙂

Paddling pools are a great way to have fun and cool down in the warmer weather. But it’s important to remember little ones can drown in just a few cm of water.

That’s why it’s so important to keep little children in arms reach when they’re in or around the paddling pool.

It’s also wise to empty paddling pools after use to stop children falling in accidentally or entering them unsupervised.

And, don’t forget to store or turn over your paddling pool when it’s not in use to prevent it from filling with rainwater.

"Growing up in care, I saw just how life- changing a foster carer can be. I remember one family, in particular, who gave me safety, belief, and the confidence to build a future. They weren’t superheroes – they just had compassion, patience, and the will to show up. If you’ve got those qualities, you could be the difference in a child’s life" Ashley John-Baptiste.

Today we launch our 'More Than a Job’ campaign which focuses on
positioning fostering as a meaningful career - not everyone necessarily
views fostering as a profession but with ongoing training, qualifications
and support, it’s both a rewarding career and lifestyle choice.

We are bringing this campaign to life through a partnership with Ashley John-Baptiste, Broadcaster, TV Presenter, Author and Inspirational Speaker, who will share his personal journey through the care system across the media today and encourage others to consider whether they have the skills to foster.

You can find out more about this campaign here https://www.nfa.co.uk/carer-story/our-latest-campaign-career-in-caring-with-ashley-john-baptiste/

Police Scotland Forth Valley is encouraging care experienced young people aged 12 and over to take part in a short survey as part of Falkirk’s work to . You can access the survey here: https://orlo.uk/lBkGn The survey takes less than 4 minutes to complete and gives young people the chance to share their views and experiences.

If you know a young person with care experience, please take a moment to encourage them to complete the survey.

This is part of Police Scotland’s commitment to supporting The Promise – that care experienced children and young people will grow up loved, safe and respected. By 2030, that promise must be kept. As corporate parents, we all have a role to play.

Community Inspector Neil Wotherspoon said:
“Listening to the voices of care experienced young people is crucial. This survey is a simple but powerful way for them to be heard. We urge everyone in our community to support this important work and help us keep the promise.”
