The use of vr headsets have finally become mainstream. mainstream may not be the right word exactly but there was a time where the gaming industry had no faith that vr would ever take off to a point where supplying software would never ever become even slightly profitable.
Surprise were here! HMD's are selling faster than ever and mostly thanks to Meta's subsidised marketing plan that we have seen succeed over the last three or four years. We are now finally seeing some very well known Ip's and AAA games filtering through of which the VR community have been desperately been waiting for.
As more and more game studios are realising the massive potential of not only creating brand new virtual reality titles but to also re-fashion existing popular games Bulletstorm as one example of a popular and well made shooter revamped for vr and proved to be a good example that flat screen games have a home in vr if done right. Assassins creed, a very popular franchise got a brand new game built from the ground up vr. following up with Aliens and Batman among other popular past franchises being reimagined in virtual reality.
Life for the stand alone meta vr gamer life's getting even better from each update of the Quest comes more features like steam link directly linking to your steam library wirelessly on you own pc and now GeForce now which does the same but with a cloud based system meaning as long as you own the games on steam and a handful of other game providers you can play just using an Xbox controller a meta Quest's browser and of course decent 5ghz wifi and fast internet. I've play tested both steam link and GeForce now on the free only subscription and I couldn't tell the difference in quality or frame rates so my advice is if you want to play some epic free flat screen pc games like destiny2 on a massive cinema size screen with no pc then sign up to steam and GeForce now linking the accounts together and for zero cost you can play for one hour at a time, destiny 2 auto saves progress so head to your next session after an advert and short wait for an available rig. the only downside for now is that vr games are not yet available to stream
