After 53 years forgotten and abandoned, this Lotus Seven S1 has undergone an incredible two-year restoration. The level of research owner Andy Perry undertook makes it stand out – as well as the incredible craftsmanship of a number of specialists.

It was raced extensively around the UK and toured Europe so frequently that East German authorities has a file on the owner, believing him to be a spy. Quite a conspicuous one, it has to be said...

The car remained competitive on track into the late 1960s thanks to extensive modifications. The track width was increased by 18in! And then it lay dormant for more than half a century until Andy embarked on bringing it back to the car you see today.

Here's another gallery from last weekend's NEC Classic Motor Show. The Lotus Grand Tourers celebrated 50 years of the Eclat with no fewer than three examples on its stand.

The coupé's milestone has been a bit overshadowed by Esprit celebrations this year, so it was great to see it have its moment in the spotlight.

An Esprit joined them to show that the Lotus Grand Tourers aren't only about front-engined wedges. We'll have more from the show in the next issue of Absolute Lotus, and there's a full gallery on the website (link in comments).

This time a week ago we were at the NEC Classic Motor Show where the Lotus Drivers Club put on a great display of cars in Hall 1. Maybe it was the colour, but we were first drawn to the Exige S1, which was accompanied by three fellow Type 111 derivatives (an Elise S1, an Exige Cup 360 and Elise Sport 220), while an Esprit and Eclat represented the wedge era.

There are more pics from the show in our gallery. Link in the comments.

"I don't like cars, I only like Lotus." It was a spontaneous comment that we didn't get while the tape was recording, so we called Nick Adams back for elaboration.

Nick rose to the position of Principal Engineer at Lotus having first fallen for the marque as a child fan of Jim Clark. His university grant was spent on a crashed Elan that he still owns to this day, and it shares garage space with a Lotus 23B.

These days he spends his time running Historic Motorsport Services. No prizes for guessing which make of car he specialises in. His story is in Issue 47, which is in the shops now or available with free p&p here – https://www.performancepublishing.co.uk/novemberdecember-2025-issue-47.html

The Historic Lotus Register was at the NEC Classic Motor Show at the weekend for the first time in six years, and marked the occasion by bringing some very special cars.

Notably, it displayed a Lotus Eleven that has been believed lost until very recently. Driven in period by Stirling Moss, it was also used at Monza where it broke speed records. Helping in that aim was a bespoke canopy to help it slip through the air.

Next year marks 70 years since that event, and the car is being restored to its original form. We'll have more on that in the magazine very soon.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Wright. His stories from his time at Lotus and the FIA were fascinating, and he had a way of communicating complex technologies with great clarity.

We only had the privilege of meeting Peter on two occasions and enjoyed his company enormously. We were most recently in contact with him only a few weeks ago, which makes this news all the more shocking.

His work leaves an incredible legacy, particularly in respect of motorsport safety. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Not every classic Lotus needs to be polished to a sheen. This Elan Plus 2 is wearing its years as a competitive sprint car with pride. It wasn't always this way, though. Before earning its patina in competition it was indeed a show car, and before that a daily driver – and all with the same owner since 1978.

It's a car with tales to tell, and those stories are in Issue 46 of Absolute Lotus, in the shops now or available with free p&p here – https://www.performancepublishing.co.uk/AL46.html

How does a Lotus Emira GT4 compare to the car you can buy from your Lotus dealership? Mike Rysiecki has made a detailed technical comparison between the race-prepared version and his own road-going Emira V6 to find out what’s the same and what’s very different.

Issue 46 of Absolute Lotus has been flying off the shelves, but there's still a chance for you to get hold of your copy.

It features an Elite Type 14 that was first owned by Sochiro Honda, founder of his eponymous car company. We speak to a man who was a junior designer when the Lotus was brought into the design studio when Honda was shaping its first ever car.

We also have the story of an Elan Plus 2 that has been used sequentially as a daily driver, a show car and a competition car by one owner since the 1970s. It's a car with three lives, and one of those tales the proves these are more than mere machines.

Richard Heseltine tells the story of the Lotus 72, centring in particular on the chassis number five that was most commonly driven by Emerson Fittipaldi. It's a story of mostly, but not exclusively, high points.

Have you ever wondered how similar an Emira GT4 racer is to the model you can buy from a showroom? Mike Rysiecki takes a deep dive into their differences (and similarities).

Plus: we meet a Lotus Elise racer, have guidance on improving your steering technique from Neil Furber, auction highlights, news, events... and much more!

You can pick up Issue 46 in the shops now, or order it with free p&p from our website here – https://www.performancepublishing.co.uk/AL46.html

The Type 72 was a real high water point in Team Lotus's glittering Formula One career, but it didn't get off to the best starts. Despite that, it went on to be a formidable force in the sport. In Issue 46 of Absolute Lotus, Richard Heseltine outlines the ups and downs of 72/5, the chassis most usually driven by Emerson Fittipaldi.
