Where do we start with this!
Today's Rouge Trader candidate.
This customer had an extension added to their property and the "builder" said they could install 2 tv points and an aerial, which you'll be surprised to learn has never worked.
I've seen plenty of bodge jobs in my 25 years of doing this, but this one is right up there in the top 10 of rip offs.
Lets take a closer look and explain this mess!
Massive over kill low quality 52 element aerial, mounted upside down. To make things worse, it was shoved in the loft at the rear of the property, the opposite end to where it should be.
Instead of using normal coax, they got a thin pre-made cable, cut the end off and attempted to wire it to the aerial.
This was then connected to the worst aerial gadget ever created, the "Y" shape plastic splitter. These should be banned as they just kill your signal.
Instead of then connecting the 2 cables to the splitter, for some bizarre reason they ran another thin 3m pre-made cable, coiled up, to a plastic socket, then plugged 1 of the cables into that.
To give you an idea of how bad this is, the total cost of the aerial and bits was probably under £50 due to the incredibly poor quality, yet they were charged £400+ for this!
If I had been asked to do the job to begin with, a suitable aerial, mount, wiring and inductive splitter would have been £180 supplied/fitted, with a guaranteed HD and SD signals.
Builders and electricians, if you don't know what you're doing, JUST BE HONEST and stick to what you're good at. When I see stuff like this it makes me wonder what else they have "attempted" on the property that is more of a safety risk.
If you're building a home, extension, conservatory or man cave, feel free to get in touch and I can advise during 1st fix and 2nd fix phases for the best results.
