Back in the day

Of course, we didn't just cover stadium oval racing in Short Circuit magazine in the late 70s, early 80s, Autograss racing either NASA, independent or with the SEGTO group of south eastern clubs all got a look in. Here in an amazing shot by ace 'tog Dave Bearn is Mini racer Tony Phillips dropping in on fellow Sutton club member Tony Masters at the notorious Funtington Raceway, in a disused quarry just outside Chichester, West Sussex. The ARC club ran their SEGTO meets there, on it's fast. challenging and tyre-eating gravel kinked oval with the high walls that caught out many a racer this way... Kevin Cooper now has my SEGTO photo collection from those days and is doing a great job of releasing them in batches.
